• I didn't want to waste words with Serena. Her words, her fragile little protests-none of it mattered to me anymore. The Frost Family, with all its illusions of grace and authority, had long since lost its hold on me. "Whether you call it a warning or a reminder, that's for you to decide," I said, cutting her off before she could preen her way into any justification.
• I fixed her with a gaze sharp as a wolf's teeth, the cold fire in my eyes warning her without words. "I've returned your Frost Family title, Serena. The debt I owed the family for their upbringing? I've paid it in full over the past two years. From now on, there's no connection between us-you don't need to fear I'll come after anything of yours."
