Chapter 18

  • Tila walked through the mall with Desmond’s sister, Carina. The two of them strolled past the fancy shops, holding their shopping bags in perfectly manicured hands. Their steps were slow and graceful, as if they wanted everyone to notice them. Bright store lights flashed off the shiny tiles, and the smell of new perfume and fresh popcorn filled the air. Both women were dressed like models in a fashion magazine.Carina in a pale blue dress with silver heels, Tila in a fitted pink top and a skirt that showed off her long legs. They looked perfect on the outside, but their voices told another story.
  • "I still can’t believe Faye left Desmond for Phillip," Carina said, shaking her head in disbelief. Her earrings sparkled as they moved. "That girl is awful. My brother was serious about her. He even talked about marrying her. And then she just walked away like none of it mattered."
  • Tila rolled her eyes, her lips curling with annoyance. "She’s always been like that," she said. "She acts sweet and innocent in front of everyone else, but when no one’s watching, she’s selfish. It’s like she doesn’t even care who she hurts."
