Chapter 7 Friend Or Foe?

  • “Megan,” Mr. Blackwood called softly, keeping his gaze steady as he read her facial expression. “I would take it that you have met my new assistant,” he added. His eyes trailed down to her chest as he couldn’t help but notice that her boobs were accentuated in that gown that she was wearing.
  • Megan nodded with a bit of hesitation. “Yes Sir, although I had no idea that you had found a replacement until now.” She replied and slowly dropped the files on his table, with her melons carefully hanging on top of her inner elbows as she did that.
  • It almost felt like it was a deliberate act to get his attention, but Mr. Blackwood didn’t think much into it. Megan had changed in the past few months but he hadn’t bothered to find out if there was something wrong with her. She didn't look this attractive and Maxwell couldn’t tell if there was a reason for the sudden hotness. Maybe she was just going through a phase or something, as long as she got the work done, it didn’t bother him.
  • “Oh… Yeah. I didn’t think she was coming back.” The CEO replied honestly as he reminisced on Anna’s warning words the first day he made his offer. Even though he felt insulted, he got intrigued and hoped that she would change her mind. So you can imagine how happy he was, the day she took his offer, he was having a completely bad dad before he received that call from her and her request for a meeting changed everything.
  • But Maxwell knew how to hide his real emotions behind a poker face, he had picked that up during his teenage years as it kept people on the edge and unable to read his mind. “You don’t look too bright today, Megan. Is there something I need to know?” Mr. Blackwood asked casually as he picked up the mug of hot coffee that was served over an hour ago, it was cold now and so he had to dispose of it.
  • “Sir… I don’t know if this is a good time but there has been a disturbing sudden drop in the price of Diamonds, not like the regular price drops we have encountered in the past, this is worse. If we don’t come up with serious measures to mitigate the impact of the price drop very soon, then we would be in for a lot of loss.”
  • Mr. Blackwood’s face went from neutral to worried in an instant. “Loss…” He muttered softly and chuckled. “I hate losses,” he then groaned and clenched his fist. Even with all his wealth, Mr. Blackwood feared poverty and despised the poor, not even his lustful fantasies could lead him away from the circle of wealth.
  • “What should we do, Sir? Should I call for a board meeting?” Megan asked immediately, as she noticed that the Boss was not bringing any ideas and his mood was quickly changing.
  • “Board Meeting? I have an assistant now, Megan. That is her job… But no, we wouldn’t be calling for a Board Meeting. I don’t know how to fix this problem as I am not familiar with it, but it is a good thing that my new assistant has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Let us see if she knows how to defend that Diploma certificate.” He smiled smugly.
  • Megan scratched her head, a look of disagreement and disappointment on her face. “Forgive me Sir, but this is a serious issue that can cost us a lot of financial damage if care is not taken. Are you sure that you want to leave it to the new cat?”
  • Mr. Blackwood chuckled softly, he could sense that Megan didn’t like this “new cat” too much. He pushed back his chair and sat upright. “Why not?”
  • “Like I said, Sir… I really don’t feel like it is a good idea to leave this problem to her. She might be as good as she says but we should test her with minor problems, rather than put the fate of the company in her hands. We don’t have much time to let a newbie make critical decisions for us.” She advised.
  • Maxwell Growled softly with his eyes dimmed. He hated to be told what to do. “Miss Megan, I appreciate your concern for my company but I would prefer that you only give advice when I ask for it, and obey instructions when I give them.” He said strictly.
  • Megan swallowed hard and nodded. “I am sorry, Boss. It won't happen again.” She muttered under her breath.
  • “Good, now go and do as I say. Tell Miss Ann that the company’s latest trouble is her problem now, she has less than forty-eight hours to find a solution for me, and do well to remind her that I do not tolerate failures.”
  • Megan nodded and then stood up. She grabbed the files she had come with, which had been of no use as she didn’t get the chance to show Maxwell the chart she had drawn to explain the decline of rates caused by the sudden drop in price of Diamond, he didn’t even care to know the details.
  • As she got to the door, CEO Blackwood called out to her and she paused, slowly turning back to look at him.
  • “Megan,” he started calmly. “I hope you realize that you have been an important asset to this company for most of your stay with us?” he asked.
  • Megan was confused to hear that. The boss barely showed appreciation to his workers for doing what he considered their job, she couldn’t help but wonder if this was a trick question.
  • “I am glad you think so, Sir.” she replied with a smile.
  • “At the same time, Megan… I hope you also know that as my personal Secretary, maximum cooperation is expected between you and my new PA for the success of this company?” he asked again.
  • Megan once again swallowed hard and then she nodded. “Yes Boss, I do understand that, and I assure you that we would have no problems.” She said with her face down.
  • Mr. Blackwood nodded. “Good, then you might leave, I will send for you if I need any information, and if you have any new information for me, pass it through my assistant.” He instructed.
  • Once again, Megan nodded and then she slowly walked out of the office, holding the files to her chest like a baby. As she walked away, she felt heart broken. During the absence of a personal Assistant to the office of the CEO, she had worked tirelessly to impress him as she hoped to get promoted to that position. As much as the position of P.S was one of the closest to the main Boss, Megan knew that the PA would always be above her and she didn’t like it.
  • To be continued!!
