Chapter 7

  • "Can you please trust me on this and let me go and return? I promise I am not running away,"
  • Liam pleaded, the pretty doctor wasn't convinced, he could tell bit he needed her to help him.
  • "I will help you in any way I can if you do this, I heard you telling your nurses that you guys don't have supplies, I can help you get those if you will just help me this once, oh and I can lean a hand at the clinic too,"
  • He promised, he didn't know how he was going to keep that promise but desperate tikes call for desperate measures.
  • "How am I supposed to trust your words when I don't even know you? Yes, I need those things you are promising but his am I sure you aren't going to run away right after I agree to care for the baby and where are you going to in the first place? Why is it so urgent and why can't you bring your baby with you?"
  • She asked, she was one feisty woman and she wasn't even going to let him go if he doesn't tell her, and he didn't know or trust her enough to tell her the truth.
  • "See, I honestly hate lying, I don't know how far I can tell you doc, just that there is a pressing issue that brought me to this island and right now, there is a meeting on going that might give me a lead and if I don't go now, I might not get another chance soon, I promise I have no intentions of abandoning my baby as you have made it to be, I mean, I don't leave on this island, and if I want to escape, I need the ferry which is not returning until Friday"
  • He explained, he knew he was wasting so much time waiting here and begging her but he didn't have a choice, he couldn't take the baby with him, what if she starts crying, not just that, she already had a fever bring her out with him will only make it worst and he didn't want that.
  • "Even if all these are true, I still can't trust your words, can you tell me about what you wanna go do that is so urgent?"
  • "I can't tell you, I wish I can but I can't,"
  • "Well, I am not going to pray, if you don't want to tell me it's fine, I am just going to take your words for it best it in mind that if you don't come back, I have to leave at his island soon and I can't take your kid with me, I don't have that much power or resources in fact the hospital that brought us here choose to leave us hanging, don't do anything that might jeopardize the life of your infant child,"
  • She said in all seriousness, she could tell that she was disappointed and had a hard time trusting people, maybe because she has witnessed too many promises and failures, well he wasn't going to be one of those people, she could trust him.
  • "I won't run away, I promise, I keep my promise, well except when I make the promise to my parents, anyway thank you doctor Ruby,"
  • He answered.
  • "Can I go see my baby before I leave?"
  • "Sure, this way,"
  • She said and lead him to where the little one was sleeping peacefully, there were other children in the room, he looked down at his own, yup he claimed ownership, it was him and her now, whatever happens, he promised himself and her at that moment watching her sleep that he was going to make sure she got the best life.
  • "I will be back princess,"
  • He said and walked back out.
  • "Please make sure to come back Liam, I don't want to regret trusting you okay?"
  • "Yes, I will be back, thank you for trusting me even with all the reasons to doubt me,"
  • Liam walked fast, as fast as he could towards the Marine hoping those men would still be there, it took longer than he anticipated to convince the doctor to help him keep his little one, he couldn't believe he already started referring to the baby as his, well everyone was saying the kid was his might as well accept that he made a turn and walked towards the darker side, holding on tight to his phone, he walked even faster, he made a final turn and came face to face with a man who heard a torch.
  • "Yes? How may I help you?"
  • The man asked, his steps were sloppy as if he was drunk, Liam could smell alcohol from him too, so he knew it would be easy to get past him.
  • "I am here with the men, I am one of them, I came a little late that's why,"
  • He said pushing his luck, if the man was as drunk as he assumed then it might work.
  • "Huh, okay, I don't understand why you all choose to gather here though, can't you find somewhere else to do these shady businesses of yours?"
  • The drunk guard asked, Liam took that as an opportunity to question him not that he could trust the words of a drunk man that much but at least he would get a lead.
  • "So, you know the things we do here are illegal?"
  • "Of course, who doesn't? Everyone is just turning a blind eye as no one wants to be a victim of the big boss, everyone just gotta keep quiet to stay safe, not that we are safe,"
  • The guy said, he sat down on his plastic chair and dropped the torch, Liam looked around, he should leave the man and go find out what the men in the marina were up to but for some reason, as he made to leave, he came back to question the man further.
  • "If you don't mind, can you tell me some of the shady deeds that happen here?"
  • "Are you not supposed to know or are you just here to disturb me? Oh, I see you don't want to be beaten for coming late? You are not one of the elites?"
  • "Elites?"
  • "Yes, don't you know elites? They are like the boss and then there are the commoners, the ones who do most of the dirty work and get less,"
  • Liam realized this old man had a lot of information and it would be best to tape it and that's what he did.
  • "So do you know anything about the big boss and how hard it is to meet him?"
  • He inquired.
  • "Are you asking me that, or are you just whining me, because between the both of us, you are supposed to know him, I don't know him, I have only met him once and I didn't even see his face, I guess you have not met him either, as we heard, the man is scary and dangerous, you should be careful young man, not to fall in any traps he set, I heard he doesn't hesitate to get blood in his hands,"
  • "Do you perhaps have a name, I haven't really met the boss because I am kind of new to us this,"
  • "Ohh, no wonder, well the boss, that's what he is called, big boss, some also call him mayor, I heard he is filthy rich too, you know those kinds of dirty money,"
  • "Yeah, so aside from gambling and drugs which is obviously been done here, do they do any other thing?"
  • Liam asked, the man looked at him, his eyes dimming.
  • "Are you a cop or something? Because these questions are going way more than just a curious newbie,"
  • "Cop? Do you think I can be a cop? Well, I am not, I am just naturally curious, and hate to be clueless,"
  • "Aha, that's cool, anyway, there are a lot of shady things going on here, things you don't wanna know young man, I can't tell you more but just know that whatever they told you during your recruitment, it's much more than that, the boss makes all his money from getting his hand, or might I say the hands of his minions like you to do his business, anyway that's all I can say, I wanna sleep,"
  • The old man said, Liam still had a lot of questions but he figured preying too far will make the man suspicious, he wondered if the man was just a guard or was part of the gang too, he looked kind of old but not so old that he can't be part of the schemes.
  • He left the old man and walked towards the marina, he made sure to walk as quietly as he could, making sure to be covered by the darkness of the place.
  • Liam heard voices as he got close to the marina, they were over seven people in the room, from their voices, he moved closer, trying to get a good listening but then, the men started coming out of the place, he hide in the dark part and watched them all come out in their numbers, they were ten of them in total and the last one closed the door behind him, he heard them talking to the drunk guard who nodded them goodbye, he waited for a few more minutes before he gradually walked into the place they had been in, whatever he was expecting when he opened the door to the room the men had gone into when, there was nothing in there but chairs and left over cigarettes, empty bottles of alcohol and in all just a mess of dirty, he still looked around though, trying to find anything that would be of use to him but there was none, he brought out the hidden camera he had with him and fixed it at an angle where he was sure he could see them, in case they come back, after that, he looked around the various rooms in the place, the only place that was suspicious was locked and he didn't have anything to break the lock with, which got him super curious, why else will they lock the place? When every other place was left open, he placed his second camera there.
  • After checking around the marina for almost thirty minutes without finding anything suspicious again, he decided to call it a day, he was disappointed that he couldn't hear anything the guys who had come said but at the same time he had a lot of information that he had gotten from the drunk security man, the guy seemed to know a lot and there was definitely something much more bigger than he expected going on in this island, he hoped he could find out what it was, he decided to return to the hospital so that the doctor won't think he ran away, he walked fast out of the place passing the guard who was now sleeping, hoping that those men whoever they are will show up again soon, he still needed to confirm a lot of things.
