• I wake up startled, and I realize right away that the dreams are returning, following a long period. I take a deep breath, then another, and soon I'm breathing heavily. I scratch my skin in an attempt to relieve the itching sensation caused by pinpricks of sweat on my chest while I try to figure out where the hell I am.
• I blink in the dark for a good thirty seconds, searching for a recognizable beam of light at the edge of a blind or beneath a door.
