Chapter 49
- The air in the council room had turned bitterly cold. The invisible force that swept through the room curled around Dante like mist, then condensed shadows slithering together into the form of the dark witch.
- Before he could summon his strength to fight, she stood before him, her gaze gleaming with dark delight. In one swift, graceful motion, she pressed her fingers to his chest and with a whisper, slid a needle-thin shard of enchanted bone into his skin.
- Pain erupted through Dante’s body. He roared, dropping to one knee as magic tore through him like wildfire. The entire room trembled. Wind howled against the walls. Flames in the sconces flickered violently. Glass cracked.
