Chapter 44
- Aria’s heart beat steadily as they crossed the courtyard, the weight of secrecy pressing against her spine with every step. Hana walked quietly at her side.
- Heaven led the way through the east corridor, her movements swift and confident, as if she had walked these halls a thousand times blindfolded. The east wing was less traveled in the mornings, especially now that the palace was occupied with preparations for war. Kitchen servants bustled in the opposite direction, their arms full of trays and linens, their eyes too focused on their duties to give Aria’s party a second glance.
- Still, Aria’s senses were alert. Every voice, every footstep around a corner made her fingers twitch with readiness.
