Chapter 4 Help Me

  • Lin Mengran had been efficient indeed. It was only after the first period that An Xiaoxiao was summoned to meet the principal.
  • Exasperated, the homeroom teacher, Ms. Chen, prodded her head, “Even if you can’t get good grades, can you not get yourself into any trouble? The principal is looking for you. Let's go.”
  • An Xiaoxiao pursed her lips nonchalantly and nodded. “Alright.”
  • Following behind her heels, Ms. Chen shook her head again as they headed to the principal's office on the top floor of the administration building.
  • Outside the door, Ms. Chen glanced at An Xiaoxiao before lifting her hand to knock on the door, then watched as her student entered.
  • Standing at the center of the office, An Xiaoxiao looked at the angry man behind the desk. She blinked innocently and asked unassumingly, “Sir, are you looking for me?”
  • The principal cursed An Xiaoxiao inwardly for being uneducated and arrogant. So the rumor of her rebellion against convention was true.
  • He cleared his throat quietly and said in a deep voice, “So you're An Xiaoxiao, our school's underachiever. It's alleged that you hit someone at school today. I'm afraid I must meet your parents.”
  • She couldn't help but roll her eyes. “Sir, on what basis? Whom did you hear it from?”
  • Alleged, my foot! Obviously, that Lin Mengran reported me.
  • The principal had always been displeased with An Xiaoxiao, and at this moment, he was completely enraged by her rebellious attitude.
  • “Besides truancy, absenteeism, and poor academic results, you even bully your classmates. An Xiaoxiao, our school can't tolerate a student with a questionable character like you. Call your parents and get the withdrawal paperwork done.”
  • Withdraw from school? An Xiaoxiao was defiant.
  • “Sir, how can you expel me without even asking the reason I hit someone? Isn't that quite irresponsible? Perhaps you know that it’s your daughter who disrespected me in the first place and you're afraid that I'll say something. Is that why you're expelling me?”
  • The principal Lin Dong was none other than Lin Mengran's father.
  • He slammed the table and asked, “An Xiaoxiao, do you know who you're talking to? With that attitude, trust me, you will be expelled! Call your parents here now!”
  • “Oh, that's not necessary. I'm leaving! Why would I stay in this school where the principal is trashy?” The proud girl lifted her head in an act of defiance.
  • The abject appearance that she had portrayed to Zhan Lengrui was completely gone.
  • She glared at Lin Dong and turned to leave.
  • As soon as she left the office, Ms. Chen pointed at her head and reprimanded, “What's wrong with you? Do you really not want to go to college? Can you not be so exasperating?”
  • An Xiaoxiao explained with a bellyful of anger, “Ms. Chen, Lin Mengran had bad-mouthed my mother, which is why I hit her. The principal abused his power to get even with me. I can't stay in such a school!”
  • “You've got guts, huh?” Ms. Chen wanted to slap some senses into this brat. “Your life will be ruined if you don't get into college and you'll definitely regret it in the future. Listen to me. Ask your father to talk to the principal. You must sit for the college entrance examination no matter what.”
  • A warm current welled up in An Xiaoxiao's heart at Ms. Chen's words. She felt sorry for her worried teacher.
  • Biting her lip, she lowered her head and confessed, “Ms. Chen, my dad doesn't care about me. He'll only take me away if he comes.”
  • Ms. Chen's heart sank. What a poor unfortunate child!
  • She knew An Xiaoxiao was kind-hearted. Just because no one cared about her, she became rebellious.
  • Feeling helpless, Ms. Chen sighed, “So what are you going to do now? You're just eighteen. What will you do if you don't go to college?”
  • Hearing her teacher, An Xiaoxiao felt uncomfortable. Yeah, what can I do if I don't go to college?
  • Even if her father did come to school, he wouldn't speak for her to the principal. Perhaps he would walk away instead because he was ashamed of her.
  • She knew her father well.
  • Suddenly, An Xiaoxiao thought of someone who could help her.
  • If it wasn't for that someone’s sister, her father wouldn't hate her so much; If it wasn't for the fact that Lin Mengran liked him, none of this would have happened.
  • Getting him to help with what's going on now makes sense, right? Well, he'll probably refuse to come over, but I have got no better choice now, have I? I must at least try asking him.
  • An Xiaoxiao's lips thinned. She borrowed Ms. Chen's phone and dialed a number.
  • Not long after, Zhan Lengrui's deep voice sounded from the other end.
  • “Hello, uncle.” An Xiaoxiao mumbled and paused. “Can you help me?”
