  • We hadn’t spoken since we’d gotten back from Boston—Grayson and I—that Friday night when I’d had that little blowout with Mira. Not since he’d spoken to me in that quiet voice that said more than the words he’d said conveyed. When I’d asked if the project was something important to him and if he could ever see anyone else taking over.

  • He’d huffed out a small exhale of air that sounded like a half-laugh and a half-scoff. “A project like the Haven could never be taken up by someone who wasn’t me, sunshine.” He paused, his eyes finding mine, an emotion I couldn’t read swirling in them. “It has recieved enough criticism as is, there’s no one I could trust with a project this level.”
