Chapter 13 Expressionless Sarcasm From Li Ye

  • It's already morning when they reached A City.
  • Li Tao had to send the Bentley back to the company.
  • Zhou Xiaosu got out of the car. On the other side, Li Ye took Ruan Cheng's suitcase out of the car too and said, “I'll take you home first so that you can have a good sleep. I'll look for you in the evening.”
  • Ruan Cheng nodded.
  • They bid goodbye to Zhou Xiaosu and Li Tao then walked to the side of the road to hail for a cab.
  • In a flash, Li Ye thought about buying a car because it's too inconvenient without a car nowadays.
  • Ruan Cheng was sleepy and tired. She had slept for more than two hours in the car last night, but after all, it was not comfortable.
  • Before they could get a cab, Li Ye's mobile phone rang.
  • “I'll take a call first.” Li Ye took out his mobile phone as he said to Ruan Cheng.
  • Ruan Cheng looked at him and saw that he was frowning. He nodded and answered, “Ok, I'll be there soon.”
  • “Is there a problem?” Ruan Cheng asked when he hung up.
  • “Well, our group's leader said that we need to attend a meeting this morning because we need to strike while the iron is hot and discuss our next course of action.” Li Ye said wearily. Right then, an empty cab pulled up in front of them.
  • Ruan Cheng saw the cab and quickly took her suitcase away from his hand. She said, “Take it and go to your work first. I can go back by myself.”
  • Li Ye felt sorry. As a boyfriend, he should at least send Ruan Cheng home after her business trip, but he couldn't do it now because of his work.
  • After seeing Li Ye off, Ruan Cheng got on another cab alone.
  • The cab was driving slowly, and Ruan Cheng dozed off and almost fell asleep.
  • Before long, she heard the driver say to her from the front seat, “Miss, you have reached your destination.”
  • Ruan Cheng opened her eyes and saw that she was already in the community she lived in.
  • She sat up abruptly and got out of the car. The cold eventually made her feel sick.
  • In the past five years of living on her own overseas, she had become independent. Cold and fever were just trivial matters for her.
  • But no matter how strong she was, she was still a girl who longed to be cared for.
  • But Li Ye did not seem to notice that she had fallen sick, which made her a little disappointed.
  • After a two days one night business trip, Ruan Cheng was too tired to even lift a finger when she was finally home, and she rested on the sofa feeling listless.
  • She felt dizzy as she fell asleep for a while before waking up to her forehead burning hot.
  • She quickly got up and looked for some cold and fever medicine.
  • When she was about to take some water to drink, her doorbell rang.
  • Ruan Cheng pressed the answer key and asked, “Who is it?”
  • She rented this house, and no one knew about it except Li Ye and Li Xiao.
  • “Hello, Ms. Ruan. I'm from the community hospital. Someone called for a door-to-door IV drip service for you,” answered a lady in a white coat with a medicine box on her back.
  • Ruan Cheng thought for a moment. Could it be from Li Ye?
  • It turned out, Li Ye had actually noticed that she had fallen sick.
  • Probably due to the cold and fever, Ruan Cheng was feeling weak and a bit emotional. Not to mention the door-to-door IV drip service, even if someone just offered her some common flu medicine now, she would have been touched.
  • After the IV drip, she received another takeout delivery.
  • Ruan Cheng went to open the door with her sore body. When she opened the door, she was shocked to find that this was not an ordinary takeout, but a special feast which one would probably see only in dramas.
  • “Please sign here,” said the delivery man as they gave Ruan Cheng a weird look.
  • Ruan Cheng was embarrassed. She lived in an ordinary community. From all aspects, she was just an ordinary wage earner. She really didn't deserve such a luxurious meal.
  • The delivery man left after she signed on the delivery order.
  • Ruan Cheng was at a loss when she saw the food.
  • Li Ye was not well-off. They usually went to movies or dine-in in some affordable restaurants. She was never offered such an extravagant treat before and she thought it was too much to spend just for lunch.
  • Since the food was here, she tried to eat as much as she could, although she was sick and had no appetite. This meal seemed to be specially prepared for patients as it was balanced in nutrition but light in flavor.
  • After lunch and cleaning up the house, Ruan Cheng sent a WeChat message to Li Ye: Thank you for everything.
  • Li Yue replied: What for?
  • Ruan Cheng was stunned for a moment, but after she thought for a while, probably Li Ye thought there was no need for formality between lovers. So she sent another message to him: Anyway, thank you.
  • It took a long time for Li Ye to reply: What makes you emotional all of a sudden?
  • Ruan Cheng knew that she was not getting emotional, but she was deeply touched! Since her mother passed away, she had to share her father's love with her stepmother and stepsister, and none of her relatives had ever taken care of her as they were lost in contact.
  • Hence, no one could understand the feeling of loneliness as she did.
  • The only people that could make her feel warmth now were Li Ye and Li Xiao.
  • In the morning, Li Ye said that he would come to see her in the evening.
  • However, in the afternoon, he called again and said that he couldn't make it because of some urgent matter.
  • Ruan Cheng looked at the dishes and soup she had prepared for Li Ye silently in the kitchen.
  • She then wrapped the food with plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator.
  • The next day, Li Ye came to pick Ruan Cheng up.
  • Ruan Cheng got in the car, and due to her cold, her voice became hoarse.
  • Li Ye looked at her and asked, “Did you catch a cold?”
  • Ruan Cheng fastened her seat belt and turned her head to look at Li Ye in the driver's seat.
  • “Have you caught a cold?” Li Ye reached out his hand and touched her forehead. Then he unfastened his safety belt quickly and said, “You have a fever. Wait for me. There's a drugstore 50 meters away.”
  • Ruan Cheng was stunned, and she looked at Li Ye when he got out of the car to buy the medicine.
  • Listening to what Li Ye had said just now, it was obvious that he did not know about her cold before today.
  • Then yesterday afternoon's community doctor service and sumptuous meal...
  • Could it be Li Xiao?
  • Li Xiao had been very busy with her work lately. She didn't even dare to look for her because she was afraid that she would disturb her.
  • Right at that moment, her mobile phone was vibrating in her bag.
  • Ruan Cheng took out her phone and saw that it was from an unknown number.
  • “Hello, who is this?” Ruan Cheng asked, but her thoughts were slightly confused.
  • “Ms. Ruan, there's a delivery for you. I'm at your doorstep now but seems like you are not at home?” said the delivery man in a loud voice.
  • “A delivery?” Ruan Cheng looked out of the car window and replied, “I'm at the gate of the neighborhood now.”
  • While answering the call, she unfastened her seat belt and pushed the door open to get out of the car.
  • Two minutes later, a delivery man in a green vest came with a smile on his face. He then handed Ruan Cheng a bouquet of flowers and said, “Ms. Ruan, this is for you. It was airfreighted this morning. Please sign for them.”
  • “Who sent me?” Ruan Cheng asked with a serious face. She was concerned and wanted to find out who was behind it.
  • Airfreight! How much will it cost?
  • The delivery man laughed and shook his head. “I'm afraid I'm not sure either. The customer had paid for it, and our job is to get it delivered.”
  • Ruan Cheng held the large bouquet of flowers in her hands, as the delivery man left.
  • Ruan Cheng remained in her spot with the bouquet. It was so beautiful with a pleasant fragrance, but she was not in the mood to appreciate it now.
  • “Cheng,” Li Ye was calling her from behind, and his voice sounded a little deep.
  • Ruan Cheng turned around. The beautiful flowers in her hands and the dim expression on Li Ye's face formed a distinctive contrast.
  • “I... I don't know who sent me this,” Ruan Cheng said quickly as she was afraid that Li Ye would misunderstand.
  • “You really don't know?” Li Ye looked at Ruan Cheng in the eyes, and the panic look in his eyes gradually turned into that of a reproach. He was expressionless and said sarcastically, “The flowers were airfreight this morning. How romantic and what a spendthrift!”
