Chapter 5 Test

  • "Sorry about that," Lindsey apologized stroking her back.
  • "Mr. Scotts secretary told me that, Mr. Scott doesn’t like it when someone makes a mistake, and that he likes things to be perfect," Jennifer stated.
  • "What type of person is that? He sounds like an uptight asshole," Lindsey replied.
  • "I know, right, but I don't think Mr. Rockwell knows all that, how can a human being expect everything to be perfect for him," Jennifer said.
  • "Don’t let him get to you. You know why you were put there, once you are done with the Mission, you can come back to Rockwell Art Enterprises," Lindsey replied.
  • "You are right, I guess I shouldn't let him get to me," she sighed.
  • ***************
  • The next day, Jennifer was seated behind her desk when Scott walked over to her,
  • "I want you to handle the shipping documents for this artwork, and don’t make any mistakes," Scott said as he slammed a blue file on her desk and walked away.
  • Jennifer opened the document and started going through it,
  • How could he give an intern this type of document, knowing the intern, cannot do it. If I do this document on my own, he will find out I am not a newbie, she thought.
  • Jennifer stood up and looked around the room, all the workers were fidgeting on their computers, and she had not yet made any friends in the office.
  • I think I should go and ask Mrs. Campbell what to do, she thought.
  • She walked away from the staff’s office and walked over to Mrs. Campbell’s office. As she got there, she opened the door, and sneaked her head through the door,
  • "Can I come in?" Jennifer asked.
  • "Yes, come in," Mrs. Campbell responded.
  • Jennifer walked into the office and sat down in front of Mrs. Campbell’s desk.
  • "How may I help you, I am very busy at the moment," Mrs. Campbell said.
  • "Please, I don’t know how to fill out a shipping document and the boss gave me, to handle it. He even told me not to make a mistake on it," Jennifer replied. She knows how to handle a shipping document, but she can’t afford to let Scott find out that she knows how to do it.
  • "I think the boss is giving you a test, I can’t help you out with it. Go meet any of your colleagues and tell them to help you out," Mrs. Campbell said.
  • "I haven’t made any friends with any of them, and they all look busy," she replied.
  • "That is not my problem, I am not your friend either, and I am also busy," Mrs. Campbell snapped.
  • Fear gripped Jennifer. She was thrown aback. Why is she reacting like this? Jennifer thought.
  • "I am sorry for bothering you," Jennifer said, as she walked out of Mrs. Campbell’s office.
  • She walked back into the staff’s office, sat down behind her desk, and dropped the file on her table. She started rolling her hand on her hair.
  • There goes my plan to get Mrs. Campbell to assist me in doing a document I already know how to do, she thought.
  • How am I going to complete this document with an alibi? Jennifer thought.
  • She stood up and looked around. She saw that Matthew was lying back on his chair, with an earpiece in his ears, Jennifer decided to walk up to him.
  • Meanwhile, in Scott’s office, his landline rang. He answered the phone,
  • "Sir, Jennifer came to me, asking for help on how to do the document you gave to her, should I help her out?" Mrs. Campbell asked.
  • "No, you know, I gave her that work so I could test her intelligence," Scott responded.
  • "Okay sir, I understand," Mrs. Campbell said as she ended the call.
  • Scott dropped the phone.
  • I know that work is too much for Jennifer. If she manages to do the work, I will know she is smart. If she can't, I will have no choice but to terminate her internship, I don’t like people who don’t know how to get the job done working for me, Scott thought.
  • One of Scott’s phones started ringing, Scott has three phones, one for business, one for talking with his family and friends, and the last one for checking his personal calendar and appointments.
  • He picked up the phone, and it was his mom. He answered the call,
  • "How are you doing, my genius," his mom said.
  • "I am doing fine, mom. How about you? Have you gone to see the dentist yet?" Scott asked.
  • "No, I haven't. I am scared of losing the tooth," his mom responded.
  • "Come on mom, you will have to remove it, if you want to feel less pain," he said.
  • "Alright, I will do it. Stop pestering me about it," his mom replied.
  • "When I ever pestered you, mom?"
  • "Let's not go there. You know, I called you, because you never had the courtesy to call me, I haven't heard from you in a while now,"
  • "I am sorry mom, I have been very busy lately,"
  • "Okay, I will cut you some slack,"
  • "How is Travis?" Scott asked.
  • "He is doing fine. You know, it would be nice if you could call and check up on him occasionally," she responded.
  • "I will try mom, I am very busy at the moment," he said.
  • "I need to go mom, I will call you when I get home," he added.
  • "OK, son, I love you," she replied.
  • "Love you too, mom," he said as he ended the call.
  • *******************
  • Later in the afternoon, in Scott's office, Jennifer walks in,
  • "Are you done with the document I gave to you?" Scott asked.
  • "Yes sir," she answered, as she sat down.
  • "Here you go, all the shipments are booked," she said, as she handed over the file to him.
  • Scott took the document and went through it. After he was done looking at it, he closed the file and gave Jennifer a cold stare.
