Chapter 3 Convention 2

  • She was tapping her foot on the floor hoping there was no mistake on the list because he had a strange look on his face. He raised his head and looked up at her.
  • "What kind of shitty mistake is this!" He snapped in a rumbling tone. Jennifer’s heart skipped a beat, she became numb and finally opened her mouth.
  • "What is it, sir?" she inquired, with her lips trembling.
  • "Someone bid one hundred thousand dollars for this piece, and I said sold to him, and instead you wrote to the other person who said ninety thousand dollars. What kind of rubbish is this?" He answered, his eyes were filled with rage.
  • "I am very sorry sir, I thought the person that bid ninety thousand dollars was the last person you said sold to," she said.
  • "You thought? Were you not in the conference hall when everything was going on? Where was your focus? You just cost the company a ten thousand dollars, lost," he replied raising his voice as he slammed his hand on the table sending shivers down her spine.
  • "Sir, I am very sorry about that. It was an honest mistake," she apologized avoiding his gaze.
  • "Sorry? does your "sorry" cover up your incompetency? Now get the hell out of my office, and show the list to Mrs. Campbell," he snapped as he threw the document at her face it landed on the floor. she wrinkled her nose and squatted on the floor picking up all the documents that were scattered on the floor. Annoyed by his attitude. “Why is he so mean? it was just a mistake I apologized why is he making it a big deal?” She thought.
  • She arranged the documents and walked out of his office without looking back. She walked down the hall over to Mrs. Campbell’s office. She knocked lightly on the door and opened it a little and stuck her head inside.
  • "Can I come in?" She asked.
  • "Come in," Mrs. Campbell answered.
  • She walked into the office, walked over to her desk, and sat down,
  • "What's with the long face?" Mrs. Campbell asked.
  • "The boss just yelled at me. It seems I made a mistake on one of the pieces. It was supposed to be sold to someone that bid one hundred thousand and instead I went and took the details of someone that bid ninety thousand dollars for it," Jennifer explained.
  • "What! That is a very silly mistake, and the boss must have been pissed about it. He has a very good memory, so he doesn’t forget things easily, especially when it comes to numbers," Mrs. Campbell said.
  • "He was pissed alright. He even threw the documents at my face.” She explained.
  • "Sorry about that, the boss gets very angry easily. He doesn’t like mistakes." Mrs. Campbell said.
  • "Who doesn't make mistakes? We're all human, after all," She half shrugged. Although she hasn’t gotten to know Mrs. Campbell that well, but she feels comfortable speaking around her.
  • "I know, but not while working at this company. If you want to finish your internship without any hiccups, make sure you don’t screw up any of the boss's work." Mrs. Campbell said.
  • “Okay, I will try not to, but how can we fix this mistake?" She asked with her eyebrows slightly raised.
  • "There is no fixing it, you already collected the details for the other person, the art is sold to that person," Mrs. Campbell responded.
  • "That’s messed up. Will the boss forgive me for this mistake?" She asked.
  • "It is your first rookie mistake. Just go and apologize to him. He might forgive you," Mrs. Campbell answered.
  • Rookie mistake, she must think I am new in this business, her boss is a jerk. Jennifer thought.
  • "Okay, thanks. I will go apologize to him now," Jennifer said as she stood up.
  • "No, don’t go now. Wait a few hours, then you can go apologize to him," Mrs. Campbell replied.
  • "Okay," Jennifer muttered.
  • “First, take this document and help me rearrange them in alphabetical order," Mrs. Campbell said, as she brought out a file from her desk and gave it to her.
  • Jennifer took the documents and attempted to walk out of her office when Mrs. Campbell stopped her.
  • “Remember to fix your makeup, you have some lipstick here.” Mrs. Campbell explained touching her face. Jennifer’s face flushed.
  • “Thank you.” she mouthed and ran out of the office.
  • She entered the office for regular staff and ambled over to her cubical, which was faced with many other cubicles for other employees at the company.
  • She turned on her PC and started typing the document Campbell gave her.
  • Mr. Scott's secretary must think I am stupid, I only came here to dig dirt on the company, and look for the ownership document, once I get what my boss needs, I will get the hell out of this company, but for now I need to get on the good side of Mr. Scott, she thought.
  • Later in the afternoon, Jennifer was walking down the hall, with files in her hand, heading over to Mrs. Campbell's office. She arrived at her door, opened the door, and walked right in. She dropped the file on her desk.
  • "Here you go," she said with a warm smile.
  • Mrs. Campbell carried the file and started going through it,
  • "Thanks Jennifer, you just saved me some time," Mrs. Campbell said with a bright smile.
  • "You are welcome," she replied.
  • Jennifer walked out of Campbell's office, and walked down the hall, heading towards Scott's office, as she got there, she told Mike that she wanted to see Scott.
  • "You will have to wait, the boss is in a meeting right now," Mike said.
  • "Alright, I will wait here," Jennifer replied.
  • Meanwhile, in Scott's office,
  • "Mr. Mehra, I saved this art piece just for you. This art is one of a kind. I and my best artist here in my company put this one together for you," Scott said.
  • He was on a Skype video call with one of his overseas clients.
  • "Alright Mr. Scott, I respect you too much, I will only pay 3,000,000 million dollars for that piece," the client replied.
  • "Okay, you know what
