Chapter 25 The Carsons Are Doomed

  • Miranda still didn’t know what Oliver’s last words truly meant, but she was certain of one thing—he had been burning with fury when he said them. She had seen the rage in his eyes, that sharp glint that appeared only when someone had touched a wound too deep to heal. Especially when he mentioned his mother, his entire expression had darkened like a brewing storm.
  • Still, she didn’t let any of this bother her for too long. She believed he had no means, no connections strong enough to touch her. To her, his anger was nothing more than noise.
  • The car ride home was heavy. Pinky sat pressed against the window, her shoulders trembling. She had cried so much that her mascara had run down her cheeks in dark streaks. The silence between her and Max was colder than the air conditioning, and every time Max tried to speak, she shut him out with nothing but the sound of her own quiet sobs.
