• The air in the room thickened as Luke’s fists clenched. Every phone in sight had its camera trained on him, recording every second of his humiliation. His face twitched, and for the first time that evening, there was fear in his eyes—fear that not even Miranda could rescue him from.
• Across the room, Zora beamed with satisfaction at Oliver’s demand, as though justice was finally being served. Her mother pinched her sharply, pulling her out of her daydream, but the smile stayed.
• With no way out and all eyes on him, Luke’s knees buckled. He dropped to the ground before Oliver. The room fell silent. Oliver’s lips curved into a slow, confident smile, tilting his head ever so slightly as if daring Luke to go through with it.
