Chapter 158 " Your Absence Speaks Louder Than Your Words

  • At that moment, Alex's blue gaze turned into deep darkness. He sighed, fixing his gaze on the cameras, and despite the nervousness surrounding him, he maintained his composure with mastery. His eyes exuded a coldness that sent shivers down everyone's spine, leaving a disconcerting feeling in the air.
  • "Good afternoon, everyone," he began the press conference with a firm and authoritative voice. "Almost eight months have passed since that night that turned my life upside down, a night when I wasn't even in Boston. I spent almost four months behind bars, my empire collapsed, and I saw an excess of money slip through my fingers. Rebuilding what was lost has been a grueling journey, but now that the pieces are in place, it's time to address the core issue. This press conference is dedicated entirely to the woman who turned my world into a mess. Everything I've done over the years was to love her, but now I find myself dragged into a process where I'm accused of conspiring to murder my ex"wife and her son, a son whom I recently discovered to be mine." Alex lowers his eyes for a moment, trying to hide the sadness that permeates his expression, while Rebecca can't hold back the tears streaming down her face. "Until proven otherwise, we maintain the premise of the presumption of innocence, although for most of my friends and family, I'm already considered guilty. In light of this, I have no intention of forgiving anyone. I've always despised stupidity, and they have proven to be exactly that by not conducting an investigation. Now, I will take it upon myself to see them crumble, as I will lead them to ruin unless they prefer to kneel and ask for forgiveness, as I can be merciful." He stares directly into the cameras with determination. "And as for you, my girl, I think of you every day. Your presence was enough to fill my world, and when that disappeared, I found myself immersed in loneliness. It seems I'm trapped in a hell that has turned my life upside down. There is no greater suffering. Perhaps, Rebecca, you should have wished for my death, as that would have been enough to be rid of me. My heart is filled with sadness, and what remains is hatred and disappointment. I will burden you with this. For you will never win a game in which all the pieces are my property. Therefore, I will find you, my dear, when I see fit, and not the other way around. Before this process ends, I will teach everyone how to play this game, simply because they dared to challenge me. Wait and see as I take everything that belongs to you. In the conclusion of this process, I will walk free, for I would never commit such an act. Now, I will dedicate my time to finding you, and when I do, you will carry all the pain I have chosen to keep for you, and with each passing day, as your wait prolongs, your suffering will grow. Now, you can and should be afraid of me, because previously, my only act was to love you." Alex stands up as if he's about to leave, but he reconsiders and sits back down. "There are places in the world that I appreciate, and the Turks and Caicos Islands are among my favorites. I think I deserve a few days of vacation. I need a break." A sarcastic smile forms on his face before he exits the room, leaving Rebecca and her friends stunned as he concludes the press conference.
  • "What the hell was that, Mr. Baker? You're in the middle of a legal process and publicly threaten her and everyone else. Have you completely lost your mind?" Daniel questions, his barely contained anger resonating in his voice.
