Chapter 396 Pushed Past the Limit
- Leaving Glory Residence, Timothy Lavette went with Queenie Scott to one of those funeral supply shops and bought paper money, white candles, ingots, and other offerings. Then they swung by a supermarket for some booze. Queenie said when her dad was still around, his one hobby was a couple drinks every day—never missed. The liquor was cheap, just a few bucks a bottle, but to William Scott, one drink sometimes meant more than anything.
- Timothy also picked up a bouquet of calla lilies. He drove them to the cemetery. In a place like Aldovia, home prices are insane, so burial plots are, too. When William had his accident, the Lorndon Hotel tried to hush things up. They did a decent job calming the family, starting with buying him a plot so he wouldn’t end up with nowhere to rest. There was supposed to be a payout, but for some reason it never reached Queenie. Time dragged on, and folks just… forgot.
- William Scott was laid to rest at Five Dragons Mountain Cemetery. Rows of headstones stretched out as far as the eye could see. The place was quiet. Sophora trees all around, leaves falling in swirls—cold and desolate. Cemeteries feel heavy. Lots of people fear them. But aren’t they where some folks’ loved ones—those they miss day and night—sleep? Here and there, people stood by their family’s or friends’ graves, brushing off leaves, burning offerings, and letting their grief spill out.
