  • The following day arrived with the dull ache of unease etched in my mind. I barely managed to focus on my classes, thoughts swirling around about Hilda’s deceit, my heart pumping with trepidation. There was a growing unrest in the hallways, whispers of uncertainty following me like a shadow. On top of that, I was still worried about Henry, if what Evelyn had mentioned about Hilda’s conversations was true, he was in danger, too.
  • Sitting in the cafeteria, I pushed my food around on my tray, absentmindedly glancing at the buzz of conversation around me. Liam was deep in discussion with Alyssa, and I could see their expressions were animated. There was little comfort in their laughter, though; my heart remained heavy.
