Chapter 12 Married Into Your Family

  • “This doesn't belong to me. I shouldn't take it.”
  • Seraphina knew her place well. Since it's just a contract marriage, I shouldn't take their money. Besides, this isn't an ordinary card. There must be a lot of money in it.
  • Glancing at the card, Lucien put it back into her hand.
  • “It's for you. You can hold on to it. My parents are quite generous. There should be one million in it.”
  • Seraphina was shocked. One million? It's such a huge sum of money.
  • “It's too much. I don't need that much money. How about you hold on to the card and just give me a few thousand?”
  • “Do you think we're short of money?”
  • His question rendered Seraphina speechless.
  • Fine. Your family is the most wealthy family. The whole world knows that you're rich.
  • Unwilling to dwell on that topic, she turned around and sat in front of the dressing table to remove her earrings.
  • The bedroom they were in was Lucien's bedroom in the Riviere residence. As they got married too suddenly, they did not even have time to prepare a new house.
  • Thus, they had to make do with staying in his room that night.
  • “I'm going to remove my makeup and go to bed. Aren't you going to leave?” Seraphina said to the man's reflection in the mirror.
  • “Leave? I'm your husband. Where do you want me to go?” Lucien smiled.
  • “But we're not a real couple.”
  • “We're going to be together for three years, and you want to live separately on the first day? What would my parents think? This is the Riviere residence.”
  • Seraphina was bereft of speech.
  • Okay. It's indeed very insensible of me to say that, but he can't blame me for this. I've lived with Grandma on Mount Malachite for the past twenty years, and I rarely go down the mountain, let alone being in such proximity to a man. I feel a little flustered, thinking that we're going to sleep in the same room.
  • “Where are Peach and Olivia?” She changed the topic to get out of the awkward situation.
  • “Are they your housekeepers?” Lucien queried.
  • He noticed that she would bring along two girls of similar age with her no matter where she went.
  • They seemed to be her personal maid and looked quite capable.
  • “One of them is preparing supper for you, and the other one has gone back to report on the situation. My chauffeur has sent her back to the Hoult residence.”
  • Silence ensued in the room.
  • Seraphina removed her makeup quietly while Lucien watched with amusement at the side.
  • He had thought that she would not look as gorgeous without makeup.
  • However, little did he expect to see that she had clear and glowing skin after she removed her makeup.
  • And her dark eyes were as bright as stars.
  • Once she was done removing her makeup, Seraphina stood up and picked up the nightgown she had prepared earlier.
  • She took a quick look at Lucien and asked, “Are you going to sleep on the bed or on the ground?”
  • “Of course I'm sleeping on the bed,” he said deliberately.
  • Needless to say, she was surprised by his answer.
  • How could a man be so inconsiderate, asking a woman to sleep on the floor? He isn't a gentleman at all.
  • Despite feeling furious, she suppressed her emotions.
  • She nodded and responded, “Then I'll sleep on the floor tonight.”
  • With that, she took the nightgown and went to change in the bathroom.
  • Lucien leaned against the couch in the bedroom and propped his chin up with one hand, somewhat amused by the scene earlier.
  • After changing into the nightgown, Seraphina started, “I'll be moving to Azuredale in Miles Spring tomorrow. Grandma left me a mansion there.”
  • “Then should I move in with you?” asked Lucien.
  • “I'm fine with anything,” she answered vaguely.
  • “So I'm marrying into your family?” he continued to tease her.
