Chapter 12 Laelim's Adversary

  • Jaymore frowned, asking, "What's going on?"
  • "Mr. Reed, let me explain..." Laelim began.
  • It turned out that Laelim had an old enemy from his past who had recently resurfaced after escaping from Walstino. This enemy returned with some serious combat skills ten years later and sought revenge against Laelim.
  • Although Laelim was Walstino's underground boss, his underlings were no match for his enemy. Now, the enemy had sworn to take Laelim out in three days.
  • After witnessing Jaymore's skills the day before, he believed he was his only hope.
  • Thud! Laelim fell to his knees again and begged Jaymore to help him out. "Mr. Reed, please, help me out. You're my only shot!"
  • Jaymore glanced at Laelim and casually remarked, "We're not exactly buddies. So why should I jump in?"
  • Jaymore wasn't exactly the generous type. He only stepped in when it suited him. Plus, he wasn't exactly Laelim's biggest fan. The guy had even made moves on Jaymore's wife once. If it weren't for Malinda, Jaymore would've dealt with Laelim on the spot.
  • Laelim quickly tried to bribe him, offering, "Mr. Reed, I can pay you. How about a cool million?"
  • Jaymore just smirked upon the offer.
  • As Estren's God of War, he was swimming in cash. A million was chump change to him.
  • "Money's not my jam," Jaymore replied, cool as ice.
  • "Huh?!" Laelim's face dropped, clearly surprised. It was probably the first time someone had turned down cash in his book.
  • Realizing money wouldn't sway Jaymore, Laelim tried a different tactic. "Okay, Mr. Reed, if you save my hide, I'll be your loyal sidekick for life."
  • This caught Jaymore's attention a bit. He pondered, Since stepping down as Estren's God of War and heading back to Walstino alone, there are a few things I can't handle publicly. If Laelim can lend a hand, it'll ease a big load off my shoulders.
  • With that in mind, Jaymore smiled and agreed, "If you promise to have my back, I'll help you out."
  • Ecstatic, Laelim pledged, "Thank you, Mr. Reed! I'm yours, through and through. I'll do whatever you say, no questions asked. I'll take on anything that comes our way."
  • Jaymore accepted Laelim's pledge with skepticism but wasn't too concerned about the possibility of betrayal. If Laelim ever double-crossed him, Jaymore's strength would make taking care of him a piece of cake, like squashing an ant.
  • Laelim went on to spill the beans about his enemy. This guy, Purcell Martin, used to be a big deal in Walstino's underworld. He and Laelim had a real showdown over who ran the place.
  • Things got violent, and Laelim ended up seriously hurting Purcell. After that, Purcell hightailed it out of Walstino, leaving Laelim to run the show.
  • Ten years later, Purcell was back, all buffed up and determined to seek revenge against Laelim. His only goal was to eliminate Laelim permanently.
  • "Mr. Reed, Purcell's throwing down the duel at Ponolem Hill tomorrow," Laelim informed.
  • Jaymore stayed cool, replying, "No sweat. I'll be right there with you."
  • Soon, a day had gone by.
  • The next morning, Laelim, accompanied by his underlings and Jaymore, set out in a convoy of a dozen vehicles for Ponolem Hill.
  • Ponolem Hill was a hotspot for tourists thanks to its rugged terrain. However, the entire mountain was empty today as Laelim had already blocked off the road.
  • When they reached the summit, Purcell was nowhere to be seen.
  • Tap, tap, tap.
  • Suddenly, the sound of footsteps drew closer. "Looks like someone's coming!"
