Chapter 9 Car Accident

  • My body trembled as I recovered some of my senses. All I wanted to do was to kiss him, but Mr. Lee was still outside.
  • Cassius seemed to have figured out what I was worried about. "He's gone. We're the only ones here," he said.
  • His words made me even more embarrassed. Did Mr. Lee know what we were doing? Did he leave on purpose to give us some privacy?
  • I was too mortified to continue, but Cassius held my waist assertively and bent down to look at me. His dark eyes smoldered with emotions that I couldn't quite understand. "Do you know how hard it was for me to resist thus far? You made the first move this time, so you asked for it."
  • There was fury in his tone. It seemed as if he had made his mind up about something.
  • "How was it?" he asked as I lay limply in his embrace once everything was over.
  • I was so exhausted that I couldn't even move a muscle; all I could do was roll my eyes at him in vexation and embarrassment.
  • "Are you angry?" Cassius asked. "Were you not satisfied? Let's go again, then."
  • "N-No need!" I hurriedly yelped. "I'm super satisfied. You're amazing."
  • I was trying to flatter him, but when I thought about what I was flattering him for, I turned bright red.
  • It's true, though. That thought made me blush even harder.
  • Cassius smirked. He carried me out of the altar hall into a different room.
  • The bed in this room was covered in fresh sheets. It was also festively decorated as if it were a honeymoon suite. I didn't even need to guess. One look and I knew that Mr. Lee must've prepared this for Cassius and me.
  • The thought of Mr. Lee knowing about my relationship with Cassius and even setting up the room for us made me even more self-conscious.
  • Cassius lay down beside me and started playing with a wisp of my hair. He coiled my ebony hair around his pale, slender fingers in a way that seemed inexplicably tantalizing.
  • I quickly averted my eyes. I couldn't look at him.
  • He's too dangerous!
  • Just then, Cassius spoke up suddenly, "It's inconvenient to stay at someone else's place. Let's go and find a new place when you wake up."
  • It sounded so easy when he said it, but I was nothing more than a penniless student. How would I be able to afford to rent a place in the state's capital city?
  • I barely had any energy left and couldn't be bothered to answer him. I closed my eyes and instantly fell asleep.
  • The next thing I knew, I was woken up by the sound coming from my phone.
  • I felt around for my phone with my eyes still closed and answered the call.
  • "Where are you, Celeste?!" Mindy screeched through the phone. "It's Medusa's class next! Are you in school yet?"
  • Medusa was the nickname for Professor Medina, a lecturer of ours who was known for being exceedingly strict. Once, a senior of ours, who was a model student, received a very poor review from her because he skipped her class once. Because of that review, the senior never received any merit awards from the school again, and he even lost his chance to go on an international exchange.
  • It wasn't an exaggeration to say that Medusa was like the devil to us.
  • My head cleared at once as I shot up in bed and checked the time. It was 1.30PM.
  • The class was going to start at 2.00PM, so there was half an hour before it started.
  • "I'll be on my way now, Mindy," I said before hanging up.
  • I was the only one in the room, but I didn't have time to wonder where Cassius was. I swiftly got dressed and rushed out the door.
  • Mr. Lee was sitting outside watching over his store. When he saw me running off, he called out to me, "Celeste, Mr. Cassius said he wants you to wait here until he returns."
  • "I can't," I hollered back as I carried on running. "I have a class this afternoon and I'm already running late. Bye, Mr. Lee!"
  • "You can't leave! You need to wait here for Mr. Cassius, or else, you'll be in danger…"
  • By then, I was too far away to hear the rest of his sentence.
  • I flagged down a cab by the roadside and rushed to school. Half an hour was enough time for me to get to school, but unfortunately, there was a car accident along the way and I ended up getting caught in traffic.
  • As the cab crawled past the crash, I saw how terrible the accident had been and couldn't help but gasp. "How did such a devastating crash happen?!"
  • Two sports cars had rammed headfirst into each other, and the road was littered with metal scraps. Both cars were completely wrecked in the front, and the airbags had gone off. Both the road and the cars were covered in blood that hadn't dried out yet.
  • There was no sign of the victims, so they must've been taken to the hospital already. A few policemen were directing traffic.
  • "In a crash like that, I'm sure no one survived," the cab driver remarked. "People who drive those types of cars are probably rich, but what can their money do for them now? Death doesn't care whether a person is loaded. That's why staying alive is the most important thing."
  • I wholeheartedly agreed with the driver. The most important thing in life was to stay alive. After all, that was the reason why I became Cassius' disciple in the first place.
  • Now that I thought about Cassius, I recalled what he said about the conflict between his family and mine.
  • However, I didn't know what on earth my family did against him, so I decided to call my father after class and ask him about it.
  • Due to the traffic jam caused by the accident, it was already 2.00PM by the time I arrived on campus.
  • I could only hope that Medusa would forgive me just this once since I was only a few minutes late!
  • I got down from the cab and sprinted over to the classroom.
  • The moment I entered the academic building, I tripped and fell to the floor after seemingly kicking into something.
  • My palms immediately started smarting in pain. My skin probably broke. My knees and elbows took a heavy hit from the fall as well. I endured the pain as I looked around to see what I had kicked.
  • But… there's nothing! There were quite a few students in the surrounding area, but there wasn't anyone near the spot where I tripped.
  • An alarming thought flashed across my mind, but I immediately dispelled it. It's impossible. I'm in school right now. The students are all young and in the prime of their lives. The place is full of lively vigor. How can those kinds of paranormal beings show up here?
  • I figured I must've gotten quite a scare from the vigil last night. It would explain why I was so jumpy. I got up, shook my head to stop myself from having these silly thoughts, and limped my way to the classroom.
