Chapter 60 Voices From The Past: Jane's Dilemma

  • The moment she heard it, she knew it was Jackie's voice. She would recognize it even if he turned to ashes. Jane didn't bother to ask how Jackie got her number; he could easily find her if he wanted to. She didn't respond right away, instead glancing at the closed bathroom door. Isabella Parker had gone in for a shower, but Jane couldn't help feeling uneasy. In a lowered voice, she asked, "Did you do it?"
  • Jackie didn't deny it. "Sweetheart, even though you're adorable, you're just not trustworthy. One second you're sweet and compliant, and the next you're running off with another man. I won't ask what unseemly things you were up to in the lounge last night, but I at least need to let you know that if you dare stand me up again, the consequences will be more than you can handle."
  • Jackie's undisguised threat, spoken almost like a term of endearment, made Jane laugh with anger, "Jackie really has the leisure to care, doesn't he? I'm just a tiny ant, yet Jackie puts so much effort into keeping tabs on me. I'm flattered beyond belief."
