Chapter 25
- Now thinking about how they had met, in retrospect, Jaccob could not help but think he'd messed up so badly and that was inevitably going to show up on the records somewhere. It didn't help that he'd been treating Stephanie horribly since she sought a job directly under him. Stephanie had been taking every blow he dealt her way like she had been trained to do so; it brought him to wonder out loud; the question that had been playing around the back of his mind since he learned the new information about her.
- Was she sent?
- Jaccob vividly remembered the last meeting he'd held with the board of directors and how Mr. Stone had threatened to pull out all of his investments as certain targets and results were not being met. It had been a tough bargaining session, that fateful day, but Mr. Harvey Stone begrudgingly relented and said he'd come calling soon to check results. Jaccob couldn't help but wonder if this was his way of checking him out.
