• “Charlotte is not just a shadow, Father,” Damien said, the words escaping his lips before he could restrain them. “She’s a person. A talented artist who deserves respect, not the ostracism and disdain you’re so eager to hurl at her. Just because our histories are intertwined doesn't mean she should be punished for it.”
• His father’s expression morphed, a mix of disbelief and anger surging through him. “You think this is about her? This is about you and your misguided loyalties.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice as if sharing a coveted secret. “You know as well as I do that she’s not worthy of your attention. She comes from a world—”
• “A world of artisans, of creativity,” Damien interrupted vehemently, cutting through the old man’s rhetoric. “A world that you choose to overlook in favor of your rigid standards.”
