Chapter 6 Choosing A Second Assistant

  • In less than an hour, James was out of Adam's room. Incidentally, Rose was still busy at her desk. She watched without daring to ask questions. Not long after, through the intercom, Adam called her to finalize the transaction with James.
  • Now, James stood in front of Rose, the woman smoothed her appearance, then she bowed her head slightly, apologized first for her earlier attitude, and then asked, "Mr. Connell, the apartment you booked costs 10 million dollars. Are you going to pay in full or apply for credit?"
  • James took out the multi-purpose payment card that the system had given him. "I will pay using this."
  • James hesitated slightly when he received the black card with the gold list. He didn't seem to know which bank this card was issued by. It looked quite foreign, but very luxurious.
  • Rose then inserted the card into the payment machine. There was a PIN code to be entered. James entered it in secret, and the transfer of funds was done in a matter of minutes. Rose had no idea that this man who looked so shabby and like he had nothing was a very rich man who could buy a million-dollar apartment without a second thought.
  • The payment was complete. Now, all James had to do was take care of the paperwork and other administrative matters which would probably take longer than he expected.
  • "I'll call you soon to hand over the apartment," Rose said in a professional tone.
  • James nodded as he looked out the window of Giant Real Estate's tall office. His mind drifted to his old flat, a place he never wanted to return to. Not because he was arrogant after having everything, but because the memories with Sofia were still attached to the walls. Walls that once bore silent witness to various plans to make the girl happy, before finally everything ended in a heartbreaking betrayal.
  • "Can I move in today?" asked James, trying to hide his impatience.
  • "Actually you can, Mr. Connell," Rose explained, "but the apartment hasn't been cleaned yet. We also need to make sure all the appliances and interiors are in perfect working order. At Giant Real Estate, we place a high priority on customer satisfaction and there can't be any shortcomings."
  • James let out a long sigh. "I don't have time. Can you hand over the keys to the apartment now? Because I need to move in immediately."
  • Rose nodded her understanding and said, "Just a moment, sir. I have to confirm it with my boss first."
  • She turned away for a moment to call Adam, with a short conversation before Rose finally turned back to James. "Can you wait a moment? The employee here, Mia Roberto, will accompany you to check the apartment."
  • James, though disappointed, understood the situation. He agreed to wait for Mia. "Alright, I'll wait."
  • The man had decided not to cause more trouble, making the decision to wait outside. However, before he could open the door, Rose, looking rather panicked, came running from her desk.
  • "Mr. Connell, where are you going?" she shouted as she approached.
  • James simply pointed outside, saying in a calm voice, "I'll wait for Mia Roberto over there. Just call me when she arrives."
  • Rose tucked her hair behind her ear, a gesture of obvious agitation. "Geez, Mr. Connell, why wait outside for Mia? Just wait in our lounge room, I'll take you to wait there."
  • James raised one eyebrow, as if questioning his suitability for the room.
  • Rose gave him a sweet, expectant smile. "Mr. Connell, are you still angry with me?"
  • James, not wanting to think too much, finally relented. "Alright, then take me there."
  • Rose happily escorted James to a lounge room specially designed for important clients. The room was decorated in soft, soothing shades. The walls were lined with fine mahogany paneling and embellished with elegant abstract artwork. The thick carpeted floor adds a luxurious and cozy feel to the space.
  • In the center of the room are several sets of cream-colored leather sofas facing an electric fireplace, providing warmth and comfort to those who wait. Small tables sit beside the sofas, fitted with modern yet functional reading lamps.
  • In the corner of the room, there is a bookshelf filled with various real estate literature and architecture magazines. There is also a long table topped with the latest automatic coffee machine, a selection of teas, and a small glass cabinet with a selection of wines and spirits.
  • The ceiling is adorned with a crystal chandelier that emits a soft glow. Views of the city can be seen through the large windows that also provide natural light into the room.
  • "Mr. Connell, I hope you are comfortable here. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know," Rose said, before leaving James alone, who was beginning to feel at ease in the silence and luxury of the lounge room.
  • Not long after James had settled into the lounge room, a waiter came to bring him a cup of hot coffee. Next to the cup was a small plate filled with canelé, a classic French snack that was savory and sweet on the outside, and soft and warm on the inside-the perfect choice to accompany the coffee and pass the time.
  • James had just taken a sip of coffee when a system alert popped up on his phone screen:
  • [Complete your transaction today immediately, then choose a second virtual assistant who can follow you everywhere, including doing personal business].
  • James thought, didn't he already choose a virtual assistant, Julian? Why is he still being asked to choose another assistant? He hasn't even used Julian to its full potential because he still doesn't know what to tell her. How could he possibly want to add another assistant?
  • The system adds: [If you get one more assistant, god points will be added].
  • Engrossed in thinking about the system's commands, a woman's voice suddenly greeted him, "Good morning, Sir."
  • James turned his head and his eyes met a brown-eyed, wave-haired woman with a tall, slender body who greeted him. She was absolutely beautiful, leaving James momentarily stunned, watching her for longer than he should have.
  • The woman extended a hand, "I'm Mia Roberto, the person who's going to help you see the apartment unit you bought today."
  • Shaking hands, James smiled. "Nice to meet you, Mia. I was waiting."
  • Mia returned his smile. "I've already been informed of your situation. Let's get this over with quickly, so you can enjoy your new apartment without further delay."
  • They both then left the lounge room, walking through the corridor lit by the soft morning light, heading towards the apartment that would soon be James'.
