- The dungeon was cold, but it wasn’t the damp chill in the air that made me shiver; it was just the silence. That oppressive kind of quiet that presses against your ribs until you think your own heartbeat might betray you. I sat on the narrow slab they called a bed, my wrists raw from the ropes, my back pressed against the wall.
