Chapter 37 Shadow Games

  • The cold air whipped through the jagged mountain path as the fifty carts rattled their way across the narrow trail. The men were busy discussing their plans after the trips, with subtle laughter accompanying the creaking of the wooden wheels that blended with the occasional clatter of grain sacks brushing against each other. The sun had gone down to a bearable extent, marking the setting of the sun as the gentle breeze blew over the mountain.
  • Rachel’s men crouched behind the huge trees, waiting for the perfect moment to strike with their eyes sharply fixed on the men, their blades sheathed and their bows drawn. Slowly, they approached the marked area, and the first cart dipped into the bend, giving the sign, and one of the soldiers gave two swift bird call signals.
  • Immediately, the arrows flew into the air, and the men who were less prepared barely had time to scream. The shots hit the targeted areas, and the men slumped over as they pierced through the necks and heads, making them fall over their carts as blood painted the ground. Some of them tried to flee in panic, but the hill at the side didn’t provide much opportunity before the swordsmen appeared to finish them off swiftly and ruthlessly.
