CHAPTER 4

  • "Jase?" Emily called as she stared at him indecisive expression crossed on his face. She could tell him just then and there that she was in love with him, that he didn't need to worry about anything. That she would replace Melanie and become his mate.... But she couldn't, Emily knew too well that Jason has always seen her as his little sister and suddenly telling him now would just add a pule on top of his own. She just couldn't afford such a mistake and she at least didn't want to. Not now.
  • However, this could be Emily's only chance to tell him. She could manage to let him finally view her as a woman and not a child.
  • Her eyes dropped down to his bulky arms and she slid her hand down to his arm, softly squeezing her hold. He glanced towards her in an instant at the sudden feel of the squeeze only to pause when he watched her furrow her brows at him whilst biting onto her lip in hope that he would get the message she was trying to send him without saying a thing.
  • And he did.
  • He got the message quite well.
  • He glanced away and sighed out as he ran a hand through his hair before reaching over to her hand on his arm. With a gently smile on his face, he looked back at her and reached Hus hand over to the one Emily hand on his arm. He covered his large hand over her, forcing her to take in a sharp breath as she stared into his soft gaze, only to run cold when he removed her grip from his arm and gently placed it onto her lap. She stared down at her own hand as he let go and recoiled his own hand before glancing back up at him.
  • "Jase-"
  • "I'll go get some fresh air." He smiled once more before getting up from his seat and walked out of the door, leaving Emily in complete shock and terror at the thought that he had just plainly rejected her without uttering a word.
  • Squeezing her eyes shut, she just couldn't help but tag on her hair in frustration.
  • This can't be happening.... She cried internally before standing up to her feet and sighing out. I'm just a little sister to him....
  • Her brown gaze searched the living room she was in, searching for nothing in particular when, out of the large glass windows, she could spot Melanie within the crowd standing by herself with a wine glass between her fingers. She wasn't around anyone in particular, but simply scavenging the rest of the crowd that chattered to each other.
  • Well, she had to step out to find a mate.
  • She sighed out and clenched her jaw as she marched out of the room, still feeling irritated about her failed approach.
  • She stepped out into the open and noticed the other girls her age wearing the ceremonial gown she also had on already seemed to have found their mates. She took in a sharp breath, breathing in the intense coldness before stepping onto the pavement and towards just one person.
  • Melanie.
  • Not that she wanted to talk to her about Jason, but she was the only person she could ask to have introduced to the males since she couldn't do it herself.
  • Her fingers clenched into a fists as she approached Melanie who spotted her within seconds. Her bright yellow gaze glued onto Emily as she got much closer until she was standing right in front of Jason's wife.
  • She was a very beautiful woman with straight well-kept jet black hair that fell to her waist in a low ponytail. Her chest was large with a relatively small waist to give her a much attractive appearance. She had long smooth slender legs that she didn't mind exposing in her knee high black gripping dress.
  • Compared to Melanie, Emily knew Jason wouldn't see her as a woman. Now Emily believed she had seen what a woman means to Jason, or what a woman is to him.
  • She was far beneath her. Or so she thought.
  • "Oh, Emily, is it?" She asked as she stared through her long lashes and down to the slightly shorter Emily in front of her. "Do you want something from me?"
  • "Oh... Hi." She nodded to herself and glanced around herself, making sure Jason wasn't around to suspect that she was ratting him out. "Um... C-Could you help me?" She whispered as she leaned slightly to Melanie who frowned at the closeness.
  • "Help you with what?" She asked plainly.
  • "With finding a mate. You see... It's my last birthday and my last chance. Or else I'll be too old for it. Could you help me?" She asked and Melanie could only sigh out and glance around the pack with lazy eyes.
  • "There's a man that I know." She said as she dropped her eyes down to Emily. "He's fairly rich, but not much." She shrugged her shoulders and sighed out. "But he's by far also looking for a mate. Other than him, I don't know who else."
  • "Is he here?" Emily asked as she glanced around.
  • "Stay here." Melanie ordered before leaving the spot and walking into the crowd. Emily sighed
  • Out shakily as she laced her fingers together and chewed onto the inside of her mouth.
  • At least she was helping her a little.
  • Jason wasn't going to accept her.
  • "Emily." Melanie called as she walked towards her with a young man with stunning green eyes and sharp facial features. From the look of his expensive silk clothes, he was no doubt rich. "This is Kelvin Woods. He's the son of rich man Tory Woods. He's a member of the pack but lives in the human city." She introduced and Emily nodded as she reached out to shake his hand. He gladly received his hand and plastered his lips against her knuckles with a smirk.
  • "Didn't think you'd be this beautiful, Emily, daughter if Valentine, our alpha. It's an honor meeting you in person." He grinned, forcing Emily's smile to drop as she suddenly felt a shiver run down her spine.
  • Something's not right with him... She thought to herself.
  • "Why don't we find somewhere quiet where we can be alone?" He asked as he pulled onto her arm to have him follow. She shot a worried glanced to Melanie who nodded and waved her free hand.
  • "It's your mating ceremony, Emily." She said before she sipped onto her wine. "Don't resist."
  • With that, Emily let Kelvin walk her towards the mansion.
