- “You three, go south, and scout toward the river. If it was a bear, it's after the salmon. There’s not much for it in the hills and especially the upper valley. The berries aren’t ripe enough yet.” I motion to Rhett, who grabs Mason and Brady by the shoulders and turns them to the south. I look at Walker, who stares at me so intently I wonder if he’s even breathing. The excitement behind his green eyes is palpable. “You and Fischer are going west, toward Endova.” I step toward them, lowering my voice. “Stay out of sight of the scouts I sent to New Emberfyll. Got it?”
- They nod and turn, hustling off, disappearing into the trees before they shift, leaving ribbons of fabric in their wake.
