Chapter 6
- Doing as I’m told and moving all of Linda’s files to the side before getting back to my own work. It’s only another twenty minutes before Linda makes her way to my desk. And immediately her eyes squint and I can see the anger in her features.
- She opens her mouth probably to insult me in some way but I beat her to it. “Mr. Robert’s would like to see you in his office.” And the anger is no longer there. It’s now replaced with fear and anxiety as she swivels her head to the side to glare through Logan’s window. And like on cue his eyes dark up from his work and glare right at us. His eyes stay focused on Linda for a minute before they drift down to me behind my desk.
- I hear Linda gulp before her whole body turns and starts walking slowly towards his office door. She walks so slow I’m sure she thinks she just signed her own death certificate. I watch as she takes a large deep breath before knocking.
- I hear the faint “come in” before she pushes the door open. “Close the door Mrs. Hernandez.”
- Oh god.
- No one calls Linda anything but Linda. She hates her sir name. She made it very clear when she divorced her husband that she needed to change it but hadn’t gotten around to it. So everyone simply calls her Linda. Even Logan. But he just called Mrs. Hernandez which is probably a very bad sign.
- Five minutes later after some raised voices Linda comes out. Tears streaking her face as she walks over to my desk. She doesn’t say a word as she grabs her folders and slowly walks back to her desk and plops down. I’ve never seen her so engrossed in her own work. Everyone keeps glancing at her.
- “I’ve only been here a few days but I’ve never seen Linda like that. What happened?” I look over and the new girl Michelle is standing next to me. Out of everyone in the office. She’s the only woman close to my age. She’s a few years older than me. But barley. Only maybe two years.
- “I’m not quite sure.” I say. Not trying to make it more obvious it may be my fault or that I’m involved in some way.
- “Not the interested in gossip type. I like that.” She says with a smile. Before her attention is torn away from me and towards something else. I peak past the small wall blocking my view and see none other than my dad.
- “Hi Michelle.” He smiles big and I already know what that means. He’s interested in her. My dad hasn’t had a single steady relationship as far as I’ve been alive. Hell my mother wasn’t even a steady relationship. They just both happened to be too drunk when they were younger to remember one wasn’t on birth control and one didn’t have a condom, hence me being here.
- But that didn’t stop my dad from keeping his streek going. Though I had more feeling my dad shared more than just a one night stand with my mother. He had feelings towards her. But never wanted to admit it. And when she passed I saw how it broke him. For the first time since I was born he turned down woman. He strayed away from anything more than a true one night stand. Woman didn’t even sleep over anymore. And after about two years of celibacy he went back.
- But there was a distance I could see in every girl he dated. He never let anyone get close. And Michelle will probably be just another notch in his headboard, though she’s younger than most. I think he’s avoided woman close to my age but now he’s wondering quite close to it. Two years difference between me and her. His date and his daughter. So maybe this whole affection towards his best friend isnt to all that worrisome. Who am I kidding, I want my dad’s best friend from college to fuck me.
- Thats a little worrisome, is it not?
