Chapter 4

  • “Do you have the blueprints for the Steven’s house?” Ben asks as he leans against my desk.
  • The man’s more my age, at twenty-six. He’s good looking. Better suited for me. As June and Rachael have said. Yet. He’s no where near my type. And I have not an inch of interest in the man. My type being my dad’s best friend and currently also My boss.
  • Unavailable!
  • Uninterested in Me!
  • Sexually Active!
  • Sixteen years older than me!
  • My dad’s best-friend!
  • Could it be any clearer why it won’t work. Can’t work. Will not happen! Yet somehow the man’s voice does it for me. His looks make me feel like melting. And on the odd and rare occasion that his arm or leg grazes me, my body feels like it was just zapped with a small current of electricity.
  • It’s all in my head. It has to be. All in my head.
  • Repeat, and then Repeat again Elli. ALL. IN. MY. HEAD.
  • Ben chuckles as I look up at him. “You okay there bugs?”
  • I really dislike that nickname. He thinks it’s cute because I’m small compared to him but I find it highly annoying every time the word slips his lips. He’s leaning against my desk like his ass has a permanent spot there. And I also find it annoying.
  • “I’m perfectly fine.” I retort annoyingly. As I dig through files trying to find the one he needs.
  • “I was thinking bugs— maybe tonight we could—“
  • “Mr. Chambers and Ms. Harper.” My fingers freeze over the folders I’m digging through. And my eyes slowly drift up to see Logan glaring at us.
  • Lovely.
  • My eyes glance over for a split second to see a few other employees who have now taken my awkward moment in as a perfect opportunity for their amusement.
  • “Flirt on your time. Not on my time.” His tone is threaded with anger and distance.
  • I shut my eyes before I make the most annoyed look at Ben. But he’s smirking like he won something. And for a brief moment I wonder how nice it would feel to just push him.
  • But I’ve already gotten into enough trouble. Adding the fact that Logan now thinks I’m flirting with someone I couldn’t be further from being interested in.
  • I finally find the folder I’m looking for and slam it against Ben’s chest. “Ass. Off. My desk.” I mutter low and with my tone he realizes something. Maybe that I’m pissed I just got in trouble but it’s more so that I’m simply not interested in him like he is in me. But it’s enough to at least get him to leave. Thank goodness.
  • The rest of the day goes by quickly and as soon as four pm rolls around I’m out of my desk and darting out of the building like it’s on fire. I’d rather not spend any extra minute around Logan, if possible. It’s already hard enough to work around him when just man’s voice can make core clench and my inside's flip. His scent can make my panties drench, along with my senses going haywire. I’m surprised I can get any work done on a good day.
  • I manage to make it home and plop down on my couch. Toss my heels and relax. On a normal day I’d call it a day. And plop into bed regardless of how early it is. But tonight.
  • I feel like drinking again. So I do. I go into my liquor cabinet and pull out my whiskey.
  • With a glass in hand and my whiskey I put on Netflix and drink the night away.
  • Can’t get into trouble at home alone drunk.
  • Or so I think.
