Chapter 6 The invisible midnight blue wolf

  • Godiva gripped her battered phone in her hand, just as sleep stole her after a few sobs. She was exhausted from the day's miseries. It was agonizing when a strong pair of hands clamped around her mouth, lifting her from the bed. Her screams were hushed, the grip getting tighter. She still couldn't believe it was real and happening in Rock's pack. How did they get into her room? Did anyone know about it? She was making it easy for her captor though she couldn't see his face through the darkness. She kept fighting for her freedom but her captor was stronger than her.
  • The firmness of a gun around her head made her stiffen, realizing that she was being dragged towards the window. Even though she couldn't see their faces, she could tell by their scent that they were different from the ones after her earlier in the day. Her heart sank into a fearful mud, hope deluding her on how she could ever be free from these entanglements. The only way she could explain how she felt was in comparison to a lab rat.
  • Even in Rock's pack, she was being hunted. The thought of it sent fearful flashes. Her banging heart released not even a meagre of hope. Somehow she felt that Rock wouldn't be able to save her this time and she just had to accept and deal with her fate. Another part of her mind blamed Rock for everything. If he hadn't captured her, she would have been out of the country. Now she was torn between hoping for his rescue or hating him even more.
  • Before she was lowered, she could see more men below and accepted that there was nowhere safe for her. Several men invaded Rock's pack which was to be her safe house. Just as the door pushed open, hope and expectation embraced her when an invisible presence disorganized everything. It happened so quickly that by the time the lights came back on, five men laid on the floor lifeless, with Rock standing there, enraged.
  • Even Godiva feared to see him in this state. He was so fearsome that a blink of an eye could release bullets without pressing the trigger of a pistol. Now Godiva was certain that Rock had some kind of powers. Knowing he won't give her answers to it, she was determined to ask Xena but right now, she was a frightful shivering mess. She recollected the men below and watched from the window, to see Steel kicking their asses. At that moment, he looked just like Rock. So cold and scary. Steel took down the men in what seemed like a flash but Godiva knew that Rock was the one who took care of the ones inside. She feared what would have happened if Rock hadn't saved her on time.
  • What did those Alphas have in store for her? Did they want her because they paid for her or it was something else? Would she be subjected to a life of slavery for the rest of her life? Her racing thoughts did nothing to cool her thumping heart. She didn't realize it when she threw her arms around Rock, shaking in the process. She blamed him for everything and hated him but he always came through for her on time. No matter how she looked at it, the man she loathed was her only saviour.
  • She had to accept that only he could save her from the seven Alphas. Rock stiffened at the feel of her soft skin on his hard one. His heart sank with every tear she shed, yet he appeared indifferent. The door pushed open and Xena and Steel appeared.
  • "How did they trace her to this pack?" Xena asked. She was awakened by the noise and went to check, only to realise there were intruders. Another badge was on their way, halted by the bodyguards. She was just realising that they were after Godiva after asking of Rocks' whereabouts and realizing he had also taken care of those in Godiva's room.
  • "The correct question is, what gave them the guts," Steel seethed. His usual warmth was lost, making him look like a twin to Rock. No one dared to attack the Blue Rock Pack due to their Alpha's invisible midnight blue wolf. It was the most deadly, and usually a suicide mission. Rock's invisible wolf gave his pack maximum security but only Steel knew the sacrifices attached to it. Unlike every other werewolf. He could never interact with his wolf except on a seasonal blue moon which was quite rare. It happened as the third full moon which is every two and half years.
  • His inability to interact with his wolf regularly was what made him so cold and unable to speak more than five words at a time. He could only see his wolf at that time and also interact with him. As soon as he shifts, he becomes invisible. The pack was both blessed and cursed, only choosing an Alpha who had it.
  • "Perhaps she was tracked because she was all they wanted. After all, she legally belongs to them as well," Xena analysed, just as a frightening growl escaped Rock at Xena's words that made Godiva and even Xena step back in fear. Rock pulled Godiva protectively to himself but she couldn't stop trembling.
  • "Did you make a call?" Steel asked Godiva, who was soaking in the warmth of Rocks' arms. She nodded her head in assertion, only then enlightened with understanding. They were tracking her cell line and that call gave them her location. No wonder Rock destroyed her phone. Everyone was clear. He wasn't a monster and was just protecting her. But why wouldn't he explain his actions? It could have made things easier between them and here she was, hating him for the wrong reasons.
  • "I'm sorry," she said but Steel was still concerned and asked, "who did you call?" Godiva was scared of revealing the identity of her sisters. What if something happened to them? Could she trust Rock enough at a moment like this? She hasn't even known him for up to twenty-four hours and his saving her was still a mystery. It was better that their existence remained unknown.
  • "Just a friend to follow up on schoolwork," she said, shivering and not pulling away from Rock who was intently listening to their conversation. Among everything she faced after her father's death, this was the scariest. Having her place of haven invaded and almost being abducted.
  • "Are you sure? Because you have to understand that they would hunt the person you spoke with to get to you," Steel explained the efficacy of her actions. Godiva knew that Theresa was smart and knowledgeable. She wouldn't be hunted easily. With that confirmation, she kept to her stand.
  • "I think it will be safer for her to share my room," Xena proposed. From how things turned out, it was no longer safe for Godiva to be alone.
  • "Safe?" Steel burst into laughter. His usual warm vibe had instantly returned. "How good are your fighting skills?" He began to taunt Xena again.
  • Surprisingly, Xena didn't coward this time. "It would have been better than yours if only you both allowed me to train," she pouted.
  • "In this pack, women's training is forbidden," Steel reminded her. It was only in Blue Rock Pack that women training was banned. All other packs allowed it and even Alpha Ice, Rocks' father encouraged it but Rock banned it. He believed in procreation. If the she-wolves died in combat, how would more werewolves be birthed?
  • Hence, the women should be well-nourished to produce more, and not die in fights. His principle was just simple. Men didn't have a womb and therefore should be at women's beck and call. That way, their pack would remain the largest and strongest.
  • "What about Tala and Rieka? Aren't they women?" Xena asked about the two female fighters.
  • "They are different. They were born warriors with Alpha genes, which means they can't bear children. It will be a waste if they are not allowed to train. Things aren't as violent as it was in the past and we hardly get attacked so just focus on your education," Steel comforted Xena.
  • At the mention of education, Xena was excited. Her pack took education very seriously and Rock had his masters degree by the age of twenty. He was very smart. "Fine but the question is still unanswered. Where does she sleep and who would protect her? Xena reminded him.
  • Steel gazed at Godiva and Rock, the corner of his lips curled as he shrugged. He was about to speak when Godiva beat him to it.
  • "In his room," she clutched tightly to Rock and said. Rock was unreadable and asked, "my mark?" He would never share his room with her if she refused his mark. What was there to bind them then? It would only make things difficult for him for nothing.
  • Godiva stiffened slightly, pulling away. She looked at Steel sadly, then at Xena. She couldn't tell if they were for or against her. She understood that Rock won't share his room with her without the mark. Rock saved her and she was grateful to him but she couldn't say that she loved him enough to bear his mark for the rest of her life. She was captured in a net of confusion. What happens if she finds her mate after accepting his mark? But what happens to her if she doesn't? Should she refuse his mark, she might die and never get to see her mate. Whereas she might have to give her mate a kiss of rejection when she finds him. But Rock had to change his cold ways. She was going to make sure of that.
  • How could they live together without constant flawless communication? "I will bear your mark," she firmly said. She wasn't excited but neither was she depressed.
  • Both Steel and Xena let out a breath they didn't realize they were holding, as Rock led Godiva out, while Steel got some bodyguards to clean the mess. Rock was a hit to kill therefore Steel knew that everyone on the floor had no life in them.
  • The sound of the door shutting behind Godiva startled her. She was in Rock's room. His interior of midnight blue and black seemed like a perfect blend. The room was very large therefore, Godiva assured herself that she wouldn't get into his space.
  • Regardless, she felt her knees tremble when Rock got closer to her. His gaze never left hers, making her hot with discomfort. Rock couldn't wait for his mate to bear his mark. Perhaps she could deliver him from the loneliness of not seeing his wolf. The same loneliness he felt in his teenage years that made him make wrong decisions. Now he was old and wise, knowing that this was the right thing to do.
  • "Ready?" He asked in a soft mellow voice, which made Godiva wonder at how gentle he could be if he wanted to. He trailed his hand on her bare shoulders, making her shudder with strange sensations. His palm felt warm and she ravished in his touch, closing her eyes.
  • Today, she was going to be his by this mark but was he going to complete the mating process? They hadn't talked about that. Her heart thumped so hard, she went limp and lost her voice when she opened her mouth to speak.
  • She could feel his hands around her neck, pushing away strands of her long hair. He pulled her closer to him, only the sounds of their heartbeat and breathing were heard. There was no space between them. Rocks' eyes never left hers. Godiva felt hot but she enjoyed the feel of his hands caressing her. She had never felt that way but it felt good.
  • She could feel his hot breath on her forehead, just as warm lips pressed on it - soft, warm, moist lips. She was disappointed when it moved just as fast as it got there. She felt the softness of his lips around her neck, just as he asked, "now?"
  • She nodded her head, showing her readiness when a sharp pain took her unawares. She gasped, her breathing hefty but she was unable to scream as the pain sunk deeper. She felt his pangs coming out of her soft skin, as his tongue caressed the wound, licking the drops of blood. The pain subsided, soothing with his moist tongue but she could feel her strength leaving her body, her legs feeling numb and suddenly, she couldn't remember anymore.
  • She fell unconscious in Rock's arms, just as he carried her, laying her on the large bed and covering her with a blanket. It was done, she was his. He laid beside her, as a possessive growl left him. "Mine." His hands wrapped tightly around her waist as he had a peaceful sleep for the first time for as long as he could remember.
