Chapter 3 Curvy Backside

  • DONALD
  • “My girl needs her mom.” I know that Avala is missing something fundamental, and that's a mother.
  • The other day at the restaurant, Avala referred to the waitress as her mother. It really caught me off guard, and i felt sad but had to cover it up. Avala needs her mother in her life, someone to guide her, to nurture her, to love her unconditionally even though i'm doing my best as her father.
  • The other day, i promised that I would take her to go see her mother. But as we were getting ready to leave, she had fallen asleep. Then the other day came and I was relieved, to be honest. I didn't want her to witness her mother's situation, the way that man treated her. The thought of it is still making me to wonder how Sarah could leave a sweet guy like me to settle for less.
  • “That's her problem.”
  • My thoughts shifted from Sarah and her decisions to that restaurant. Returning to that restaurant will be a serious challenge for me, especially if i remember what Avala did the other day.
  • “I don't understand how children think at times.”
  • Thinking of what Avala did that day wants to make me kill myself with laughter. How can she think of that waitress to be her mother?. The waitress in question looks very young, she should be around 19 or 20 years old. Who knows if she's working part- time, probably as a college student.
  • As I buttoned my shirt, Avala's question popped up in my mind. If she thought the waitress was her mother, that would mean... I'm doing the math in my head.
  • I would have been with the waitress when I was... 27. And she would have been... 14 or 15. “I may have still been in jail this very moment if i had done something like that” I shook my head, while laughing out loud because i'm obviously correct.
  • How can my 27-year-old self get involved with a teenager?. I was a responsible adult, even back then. I had always been focused on my career and my future until Sarah came and distracted me alittle, though i'm back on track. The thought of being with someone that young was laughable.
  • My beard is pefectly brushed and i wore some cologne before heading out the door. It's not like i'm trying to impress anyone, I like looking and feeling great. when i was done, I hopped in my car and drove to Sarah's house.
  • I'm going to pick Avala up from school today and i have to visit Sarah quickly and see if she'll change her mind, also I need to get back and have Avala's things ready for the week. With my new night shift schedule starting today, I'd be taking her to the hospital with me, and then dropping her off at the caregiver's ward before i finished my shift in the early mornings. How i wish this shift happened next week, since i can't change anything, I want to make sure everything is prepared for the change, and that everything is in place for Avala's care.
  • I honked the horn as i pulled up to Sarah's house, letting her know i'm here. Thankfully, the enviroment looks calm today, totally different from the last time i visited. I recall seeing Sarah going through hell, and a part of me still couldn't understand why she would leave me for that... that... i just sigh and stepped out of the car and walked to the front door. I'm waiting for a response while knocking at the door. None came. I began to knock again, this time around, i made it louder. Still, no one answered.
  • Is Sarah deliberately ignoring me?, She must have heard the horn after i pulled up in front of her house. I began knocking harder, my knocks growing.
  • “Sarah, Please, i only need two Minutes of your time. That's all i ask for.'’
  • I pressed my ear to the door, waiting and hoping that she will answer. After a while, i took a deep breath. Maybe she's not at home.
  • I decided to knock one last time, as i resumed knocking, the next door on the right opened and a scary looking young man came out. He looked at me with so much annoyance.
  • "Sarah no longer lives here, You need to stop the noise. Else, I'll have to call the cops on you."
  • “What do you mean by she doesn't live here anymore?.'’
  • “I'm telling you for a fact that she doesn't stay here any longer. And like I said, you need to stop the noise."
  • I looked at his appearance. He looked... odd, like some kind of bad guy. Why would Sarah surround herself with people like this?. Out of curiosity i went to the window and peeked inside just to confirm for myself. I was able to see inside the house from the small space between the curtains, truly, the house is empty. No furniture or decorations. Just empty walls.
  • Where is Sarah?.
  • I had no option than to walk back to my car and drive out of where used to be Sarah's neighborhood. I took out my phone and dialed her number with one of my hand while controlling the steering with the other. But her number is switched off.
  • What am i going to do now?.
  • Bingo!.
  • A plan just came to my mind now. What if i ask the waitress at the restaurant to cover up for Sarah?. She seems to be a friendly and accommodating person, judging from when we were there, and I have a feeling she may be willing to help Avala out.
  • I changed direction, and headed towards the restaurant. As I arrived, I noticed a young man carrying empty plates in, so i approached him. “Hi, Excuse me, I'm looking for someone. There's a waitress i met here the other day, she's brown haired and also got blue eyes.”
  • “Oh, i remember you. Sorry, sir. She just completed her working hours and have closed for the day, You have to check back tomorrow if you want to see her, she's working the morning shift this week.”
  • “Okay, thanks.’'
  • **************************
  • I lazily rubbed the sleep from my eyes, i didn't know how i ended up on the sofa, i only remember coming in around some minutes past six in exhaustion and went to lay the sleeping Avala in her room. The night shift is taking its toll on me, and I can't wait to get through this week.
  • Shit!.
  • Avala is going to school today.
  • Woah!.
  • It's a great relief seeing the wall clock. We still have about fourty minutes, so i hurried to bush my teeth and wash my face. Later on, i went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, toast with peanut butter and jam should do the magic, since it's simple and also a satisfying meal. I brought out the bread and spread the mixture onto it, then i leaned against the counter waiting for the machine to beep, and it did after a short while. I took it out and headed to Avala's room.
  • I sat on Avala's bed, gently kissing her forehead. “Honey, it's wake up o'clock'’ I said to Avala while trying to rouse her from her sleep. Instead of waking, she turned the other way stretching her small body, and snuggled deeper into the sheets.
  • “You're not serious right now, are you?.’’ I walked to the other side of the bed where her face is and kissed her nose. Avala didn't stir at all, i kissed her nose again, and again then gradually i watched as her eyelids began to shake.
  • “It's time to wake up. wakie... wakeee.” Then i heard her tiny voice.
  • '‘Good morning, Daddy."
  • I scooped her in my arms and lifted her off the bed. “Good morning sugerpie, Let's begin the day.'’
  • Once I dropped her off at school, I drove straight to the restaurant, As I entered the restaurant, I spotted a young man clearing plates. I walked up to him, describing the waitress I was looking for. "Hello, I'm looking for someone, She's a slender young lady with brown hair and blue eyes. About 5'2" tall, with a nice curvy backside. You know what i mean?" I added, while winking at him.
  • “You mean Rose, or Tricia?" he asked, a smile spreading across his face.
  • “Uhmm... i don't know her name.”
  • "You don't even know her name. You only know she's got a curvy backside?.'’
  • Why didn't I ask the other guy for her name yesterday? It would have made things so much easier today.
