Chapter 9

• “Pregnant?” I asked feeling very confused when the doctor told I and mum that I am twelve weeks pregnant.
• “How can that be?” I asked looking down at mum who is seated on a chair in the doctor's office with her head bent to the floor, then all of a sudden the event of that day in the hotel room with that stranger flashed through my memory.
• “No...” I shouted, feeling dazzled by what I've heard.
• "Kim..." Mum called lifting her head to face me, she was looking so pale and gloomy that I realized the doctor is saying the truth.
• "No... No it can't be..." I shouted shaking my head frantically and then ran out of the doctors office, I guess my mum must have ran after me too.
• I ran out of the hospital, into the road without reasoning if there are cars or not, I guess I never cared what would happen to me at that moment, neither did I take into consideration that I have a mum who would be worried about me.
• I just ran because my legs where moving and that's all that mattered to me at the moment.
• “Miss Kimberly you are twelve weeks pregnant...” the words of the doctor keeps ringing in my ears as if they are being replayed again and again in my memory.
• Suddenly I landed on the ground not knowing whether I stumbled onto something or not, or probably my legs couldn't carry me anyone, I just saw as some people came and stood over me and slowly everything began to fade as I could neither see their faces nor could I hear any words playing in my ears anymore.

• “Kim?” I heard my mum’s voice and then slowly I blinked my eyes and finally opened them.
• “Mum?” I called when I saw her face.
• “Sweetie...” Mum called and I can her the relief in her voice as she bent over and hugged me.
• I blinked and looked around the place to see that I am in the hospital.
• A Doctor came to attend to me almost immediately.
• “Excuse me Mrs. Brown.” The doctor said to mum after examining me.
• Mum and the doctor stepped aside and I could see as they both interacted with each other only I can not hear what it is they talked about.
• I lay still on the hospital bed recalling all that had happened and the reason why I am here.
• “How can I be pregnant from one ugly incident?” I asked within me, as tears gathered in my eyes.
• I quickly turned sideways to hide my face and then wiped the tears in my as I saw mum walking back to me.
• “Kim.” She called, putting her hands on my shoulder.
• “Mum...” I cried, turning to face her unable to hide my tears from her, she just hugged me in her arms instead without saying a word, I bet she would be feeling terrible too but I could only see my pain at the moment.
• “Mum please do something, please help me mum, I can't have this baby, I can't do it mum.” I said simultaneously amid tears.
• “Hush now dear, hush now...” those where the only words mum could say to me as she held me in her arms.
• “I can't have this baby mum, what about school?” I said and asked mum still crying, then the doctor and a nurse appeared and before I knew what was going on, I felt a sting on my arm and then slowly I saw myself drifting away into nothing.

• When I opened my eyes again, I was still in the hospital, I turned on my side to see mum sitting on a chair and leaning on my bed, she was fast asleep.
• I quietly climbed out of my hospital bed and left the room, I made sure not to wake mum up, I went in search of the doctors office.
• “Excuse me.” I said stopping a nurse on my way out.
• “Please where is the doctor’s office?” I asked so impatiently.
• The nurse who was taken by surprise pointed towards a door for me, I left her almost immediately and walked to the door.
• I opened the door without knocking on it, and I guess I startled the doctor because he almost jumped out of his chair.
• “I want to get rid of this pregnancy.” I said frantically to the doctor, who looked at me in such a manner that says I have gone insane.
• “Calm down Miss Julie...” he said, trying to calm me down.
• “Don't tell me to calm down.” I retorted, banging my palms on his desk without letting him finish his statement.
• “Miss Kim..” the doctor called, walking out from where he is seated, before he could get to me two other nurses had entered his room and I guess my mum also came in with them because she quickly grabbed my hands and turned me around so that I can look at her.
• “Mum, tell the doctor to get rid of this pregnancy, I can't possibly have this baby mum please.” I cried.
• “Oh no, you can't do that because it might kill you.” The doctor said in a calm manner.
• “What!.” I exclaimed, turning furiously at the doctor.
• “I have told your mum of the risks involved if you decide to abort your pregnancy.” The doctor said calmly too looking from mum to me.
• “Mum...” I cried again, turning to my mum feeling very frustrated, why would this have to happen to me I thought as mum nodded to me acknowledging what the doctor had said.
• “Its okay sweetie, you'll get through this.” Mum said almost tearfully herself, holding me in her arms.
• A few seconds later, the nurses urged us to go back to my ward.
• Before we could reach my ward, I saw Vicky standing at the door, she looked from me to my mum and I can see the sadness in her face.
• “Vicky...” I cried as she walked close to me and we embraced each other, I could feel that she is crying herself as she pat my back with one palm trying to console me, or to soothe the pain I am feeling at the moment.
• When we went back into my ward, I discovered that mum was the one who called her, informing her of the latest development, I guess mum couldn't bear the burden of looking after me all by herself, and now that I think of it she was looking very weak herself.
