Chapter 79 6 Burning Closer

• Zara stood in front of her mirror on Saturday night, adjusting the black dress she had chosen. It was tighter than the others, with a deep neckline and a slit up one leg. She told herself she picked it because it fit the part. But deep down she knew she wanted to look good for Damien. The invitation had been burning a hole in her mind for two days. Marcus had warned her again on the phone earlier, but she still got in the car when it arrived.
• The mansion felt different this time. Quieter. More intimate. Only a handful of cars were parked outside. When she walked in, Damien was waiting in the foyer like he had been watching for her. He smiled the second he saw her, and something warm spread through her chest.
• “You look stunning,” he said, taking both her hands and pulling her close. He kissed her cheek, then let his lips brush near her ear. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you.”
