Chapter 5

  • We thought you'd gone with Austin?" Willow asked.
  • “Nope, he's got basketball practice, they claim they have a match on Friday," she said approaching the girls.
  • “So are we still up for a sleepover today?" Willow asked. Raine had asked the girl's over at her house for a sleepover. She wanted to know them much better.
  • “Of course we are. But I need a ride home. My ride wouldn't be done with practice anytime soon and I don't want to ride with Nina and Natalie either." she begged.
  • “Sure we can drop you off, come on," Mila added as they headed off to the parking lot where her jeep was parked.
  • “I love your ride, whoever this is for." she chuckled.
  • “Thanks, it's mine, Willow drives us on Thursday and Friday," Mila explained.
  • “This is my stop, you guys meet me here tonight so I direct you home for the sleepover." Raine bid her friends goodbye as they drove off.
  • The junction where she alighted was just 10 seconds walk from her house.
  • “Maybe she wants to surprise us, that's why she didn't take us home, " Mila said.
  • “Probably." Willow shrugged as Mila parked in front of her house.
  • “Seems you girls have got company." Mila hinted as they got down from her jeep and headed inside.
  • “Aaliyah?" Willow called out.
  • “In here!" she sounded relieved as Willow followed her voice to the kitchen.
  • “Who's car is----
  • “Mom..." she said with a fake smile.
  • “And who is he?" she pointed to the man beside her.
  • “My boyfriend, Cole." Avery, Willow's mom answered.
  • “I'd be upstairs, welcome Ms Evans." Mila greeted drawing attention to her.
  • “No, you won't." Willow held her hand.
  • “Can I go up now? My friends are waiting." Aaliyah whined.
  • “ You girls stay and get to----
  • “No!" both Aaliyah and Willow said storming up to their rooms. Mila smiled sheepishly and followed suit.
  • “Well, I tried. They're just hot-headed spoiled brats." Avery complained.
  • “They'd come around Av, give it time." Cole
  • “She always tries to do this. We are comfortable with our lives the way it is. If she wants to get married she should go ahead with it and keep us out of it." Willow stroked the nape of her neck.
  • “ Calm down Willow, just relax. You don't have to decide now, give it some time if only she's willing to wait and really wants your consent." Mila advised.
  • “Thanks, Mila." Willow hugged her
  • “I know your mom and dad came around. I'm sorry they don't have time for you, I guess we're in the same boat." she chuckled.
  • “I guess we are." Mila sighed.
  • Aaliyah: There's Mcdonalds in the fridge for you and Mila, you guys microwave it.
  • Willow: Thanks, you're the best. And hey, everything would be alright, it's us against the world.
  • Aaliyah: Us against the world ?.
  • “Come on Mila, let's get some food to eat." Willow dragged her friend from the bed as they descended the stairs into the kitchen.
  • Avery and Cole were nowhere to be found when the girls got down.
  • “Typical Avery Evans," Willow murmured as she got the food from the fridge and put it in the microwave setting the timer to 5 minutes.
  • Mila got plates and two cans of raspberry juice from the fridge for her friend and herself.
  • We are at your junction Raine," Willow said through the phone.
  • "Just a minute, I'd be there soon," Raine answered, dropping the call. As usual, her parents had travelled out to only God knows where and they never bothered to let her know. She was alone living in that huge mansion with maids, butlers and guards. Her step-sisters were schooling in one of the best schools out of town. When she first met Austin, she was glad.
  • Happy that she was going to spend more time with him, and his friends. But as soon as she met his friends that hope died down. They were different from her and did things that she would never dream of doing.
  • She was happy when she met Mila and her friends, no one in this world is perfect but she instantly fell in love with them.
  • “Here I am," she said, knocking on Mila's car window. She unlocked the car for her to get in.
  • “Hey, you," Mila said as she directed them to her house. The electric gates opened allowing Mila to drive into the gorgeous compound. Her house was like mansions in movies.
  • The house was plastered with brown and grey stones. The girls got down as the maids got their stuff from Mila's trunk. The inside was more beautiful than the exterior decor of the house. The walls and floors were shining.
  • “Your house is beautiful." Willow found herself saying.
  • “Thank you," Raine answered. She had a separate room where she had kept for sleepovers one day, and that day was today. She had her maids clean the room and organise everything for their night.
  • “Would you girls want something to eat?" Raine asked.
  • “Yeah, we would...anything you've got," Mila said.
  • “Okay, I'd be back." she left the room to go to the kitchen.
  • “ Why do rich parents always do this? They think showering their kids with money and abandoning them makes them happy?" Mila found herself saying.
  • “Of course, after all, they've got all they need, what else? But they've forgotten we crave their attention, their love, care, support. All we want is for them to be there for us. Perhaps we can't get the full package." Willow sighed.
  • “Being a rich kid sucks, but average kids want to be like us. The world is unfair." Raine chipped in as she entered with one of her maids carrying a tray full of food. She set the food on the table before them and left.
  • “Bon appetit!" Raine added.
  • “Don't bon appetit us, you're joining us. No buts." Willow ordered. She looked at Mila for support.
  • “I love you Raine, but I am on this one with Willow. Come on, join us." she insisted as Raine got off the bed and joined them.
  • I love these girls. She smiled to herself.
