• Elena Hart stared at the large modern mansion as the car pulled up the long driveway. It was more like a private hospital than a house. Dr. Marcus Vale’s personal residence and home clinic stood surrounded by tall trees and high walls. At twenty-two, Elena was still recovering from a serious car accident that had shattered her right leg and left her with deep bruises.
• The car door opened. Dr. Marcus Vale stood there in a crisp white shirt and dark trousers. At thirty-nine, he was tall, broad-shouldered, and incredibly handsome. His sharp jaw, intense gray eyes, and calm authority made him look more like a model than one of the country’s best surgeons. He had become a widower two years ago and was known for being strict and professional.
• “Miss Hart,” he said in a deep, smooth voice. “Welcome. I will be handling your recovery personally.”
