Chapter 135 We Got Away

  • “Take us to the nearest safe house. Let’s see if we can shake them first,” Emma commanded, sounding much more like the older sister I had relied on since we were kids. I could feel the tension thickening inside the car, but as the driver executed her command, there was also a sense of resilience and courage swelling in my heart. Even in the face of this looming threat, I felt a strange sense of determination blossom within me, a drive to not let fear overtake us. We had to push back against the dark tug of uncertainty and take control of our lives.
  • No matter what Serena had planned, we weren’t going to be her pawns in this twisted game. I glanced at Emma, and for the first time since we caught wind of Serena’s presence, I allowed myself to think that maybe, just maybe, we could outsmart her and reclaim our peace. It would be so much better to have my child after she was gone from our lives. I can’t imagine running around with my baby while worried about a psychotic hunt. I can’t bear the thought of that.
  • Everything else faded as we took a sharp turn and we entered a darkened road leading to the garage that Emma had mentioned, I felt a sense of urgency wash over us. We could beat her at her own game, together. We could get out of this, even without the guys. I clung to that thought, the notion that this wasn’t just our fear guiding us, it was our fight, too. I would do anything to save my baby, anything it takes.
