• “Yes, just us. And cookies every morning, and my deepest love for you.” He joked and smiled, making the warmth in my chest expanded as I smacked his head playfully, smiling right back at him.
• We settled back at the kitchen island a few hours later, sharing cookies and laughter. Every bite was rich, sweet, gooey, and it made everything feel right again. I wanted to remember this moment, to capture the joy of having my best friend beside me once more. I wish this moment would last forever, I wished we didn’t need to worry about Serena or anyone else. I wish Ethan were here to make this feeling complete.
• As we sat there, my mind drifted to Ethan and my thoughts shifted in his direction, changing my mood immediately. I got up and started sorting out all the little imperfections around us, like the chipped mugs we used for coffee, the faded curtains, the mess in the sink that I needed to sort out.
