• "That went well." Shane was the first to recover from the last few minutes, popping a shrimp into his mouth.
• Timothy fidgeted in her seat. I shot Pete a withering glance.
• "What?" Pete yelled in my face. "I said what everybody sitting at this table is aware of. My sister is a damn genius. Why can't she—" "Because she needs to be able to look back and like the ride, not just the freaking destination," I yelled. I was on my feet, though I had no recollection of my brain having sent my legs the signal. "Take it from a guy who spent half his twenties as your sidekick—now, not everyone wants to live in your shadow, even if that shadow comes with nice perks. You should be proud of her for having to do this on her own. You're right. She is genius. But not because she's book smart or whatever.
