Chapter 8 Meeting Dr Nakoa

  • He burst through the doors, carrying Clary, and shouted urgently," "Silver needles, quick! I need them now!"
  • Clyde was frantic. He had wasted a precious hour scouring pharmacies, and the window of opportunity bought by the Cheat Death technique was closing rapidly.
  • Clary's pulse was getting weaker, and she was getting colder.
  • Everyone in Arcane Apotheca stopped what they were doing because of his yelling. A middle-aged lady with a frown walked over and stared at him hard. "Why you gotta yell? What do you even need silver needles for?" she asked.
  • "To save my sister! Please hurry, there's no time!" Clyde pleaded.
  • The woman's eyes widened. She checked Clary's pulse, and then her face went pale. "There's no more pulse. She's dead. It's too late to save her," she said.
  • Clyde got mad. "That's not the point! Do you have silver needles or not?"
  • "I said, she's dead! What good are silver needles gonna do now? Get outta here before I call security. You're making a scene," the lady said, clearly annoyed.
  • This wasn't the first time she'd dealt with someone like Clyde. It wasn't that she didn't care, but she'd seen this kind of thing way too much.
  • Whenever someone died in the store, their family would act out and try to scam them for money. So, the lady already figured Clyde was just one of those guys.
  • Just then, an old man with white hair wearing a cloak walked out from the back. "What's all this commotion?" he asked.
  • The lady saw the old man and immediately bowed. "Dr. Nakoa," she said, "this young man brought his dead sister in here and is causing trouble and insisted for silver needles."
  • Dr. Nakoa, highly esteemed as one of the northern King's Hollow's most skilled physicians, particularly renowned for his mastery of silver needles, had established the Arcane Apothecary.
  • Approaching Clyde, he examined Clary's pulse and shook his head solemnly. "Sadly, she's been gone for at least three hours. "You must have used some powerful stimulant, like adrenaline, to keep her heart going, but that's just delaying the inevitable. Once the heart stops, there's no coming back. You need to start grieving."
  • Clyde's heart sank at Dr. Nakoa's words. It was incredible that the doctor could tell her condition from just a pulse check.
  • But Dr. Nakoa didn't know it wasn't some run-of-the-mill synthetic adrenaline or some fancy bioengineered heart kickstart.
  • It looked the part, sure, but the effects were leagues apart. Adrenaline was just a fancy Western medicine heart booster, nowhere near the power of the Cheat Death technique from the Legacy of the Cosmic Monarch.
  • Clyde looked Dr. Nakoa dead in the eye. "Listen, Doc, I know what's happening. I don't need a lecture. I just need silver needles. Please help!"
  • Dr. Nakoa didn't respond. He shook his head, still thinking Clyde was delusional and ready to leave.
  • But Clyde wouldn't let him leave. "It's fine if you don't have the celestial grade ones. Even mortal ones will work!" he pleaded urgently.
  • That made Dr. Nakoa stop dead in his tracks. He slowly turned back, his eyes wide with surprise.
