Chapter 14 Getting the Business License
- This explains why Audrey, a high-profile heiress, would stand up for a nobody like Nelson.
- Back then, Keiran followed Audrey around like a lovesick puppy. He had been tirelessly pursuing her. However, Audrey had completely ignored him. In the process, she almost castrated him.
- Yet now, she was supporting a boy toy and even opposed him for the sake of this man. This act alone was a slap in Keiran's face.
- Unable to take out his anger on Audrey, he redirected his jealousy and hatred towards Nelson.
- Keiran commanded, "Jabez, I have a task for you. I don't care what method you use, but get Thea for me!
- "Also, I've never been so humiliated as I was today. Find a chance to capture that guy from earlier. I want him castrated so he can never play the toy boy for anyone again. A woman I want is not someone a guy like him can ever lay a finger on."
- Jabez was behind the wheel of the car. Keiran was full of resentment as he instructed, "Remember, keep this discreet. I want it done within the next few days."
- Jabez's face was still swollen from the beating Nelson had given him. He nodded repeatedly, and a sinister look emerged on his face.
- They had all witnessed Nelson's skills firsthand. If they wanted to defeat him, they couldn't afford to be as reckless as they were today.
- Meanwhile, Nelson looked at the million-dollar check in his hand. He was overcome with a mix of complicated emotions.
- "I already told you that I helped your grandfather because I owed you a favor from yesterday!"
- "Also, your grandfather and my master were old acquaintances, which makes him feel like an elder to me. Treating an elder is the right thing to do. You didn't need to bring me money for it; we weren't strangers."
- Though his family was in need of money, Nelson believed that, with his abilities, he would have plenty of opportunities to earn money in the future. He didn't need to take money from Morales.
- Aubrey rebuked, "Stop pretending! Do you think I don't know your ulterior motives? No one would refuse so much money!
- "My dad was right. You have your eyes on my family's fortune. You're using the engagement and this favor to try and latch onto us!
- "But let me tell you, don't even think about it. My family is out of your league, and I have no interest in you!"
- Audrey had returned to her typical cold demeanor. She doesn't care if her words hurt Nelson's pride.
- She knew Nelson's family was struggling financially, and she couldn't believe he would refuse the money unless he had ulterior motives.
- "I have no idea where you get this sense of superiority! If you came here just to insult me, then congratulations; you've succeeded. Now, please leave!"
- Nelson's expression turned cold. He never harbored any inappropriate thoughts about the Morales, and Audrey's words were deeply hurtful. After all, he had saved her grandfather's life.
- "What's the matter? Did I say anything wrong?
- "Yesterday, I reminded you to talk to my grandfather about canceling our engagement today. But what did you do at my house? You didn't say a single word and just ran off."
- "And now, you're refusing the money to make my family owe you a favor. Isn't it obvious you're trying to latch onto my family and fantasize about being my future husband?"
- Audrey's expression was frosty. Her accusation was sharp and logical.
- Nelson asked, "If I told you I forgot about it, would you believe me?"
- "And rest assured, a woman with such a superior attitude as yours is not someone I'd ever marry. I wouldn't marry you even if you begged me!"
- Nelson's words carried a clear sense of disgust. When he was at the Morales' house, Roger was targeting him. His rage had flared up with those accusations. After he had completed the treatment, all he wanted was to leave that place as soon as possible. He wasn't in the right mind to think about the engagement.
- But now, Audrey used this as a pretext to accuse him of having ulterior motives, leaving him unable to refute her argument.
- "Enough; I don't want to hear your explanations to salvage your pathetic pride!"
- "Take this money as a token of our appreciation for saving my grandfather. From now on, we're even, and we owe each other nothing."
- "I hope you know when to quit and stay out of our lives. The engagement is off. Please do not hold me responsible for causing you to regret your actions if you attempt to harass my family again.
- "Alfred, let's go!"
- Watching Audrey hastily sever ties and leave immediately after giving him that speech. Nelson was undoubtedly very upset.
- Audrey was looking down on him. He couldn't understand why his master had arranged such a troublesome engagement for him. It felt like a deliberate attempt to make his life difficult.
- Looking at the million-dollar check in his hand, he decided to keep it. Audrey's words had left no room for negotiation. He would be a fool to let the money go to waste.
- Upon entering the apartment, Nelson discovered that his family had indeed not returned from the hospital yet.
- He leaned back on the living room sofa, staring at the check. Nelson started to contemplate how to make good use of this money.
- Although his family currently owed a huge debt to the Ingrams, Nelson had no intention of repaying it. The Ingrams had caused his family so much suffering, and there was no way he would turn around and give them money.
- He planned to use this money to open a clinic. With his medical skills, making a name for himself would be easy, and earning money would be even easier.
- Moreover, ever since his father was targeted by the Ingrams and the company went bankrupt, he has been downcast. The clinic could be a stepping stone for his father to make a comeback and regain everything he had lost.
- With his mind made up, Nelson immediately took action. After calling his parents to say he had something to do and wouldn't be home for dinner, he went downstairs.
- He hailed a cab on the street and began searching the city for a suitable storefront for sale. He wanted to take over an existing shop, renovate it, and open the clinic as soon as possible.
- After he spent the whole day searching, he finally found a pharmacy that was up for sale due to poor management. Moreover, its location was excellent.
- The pharmacy was nearly 2,000 square feet and included a small warehouse. Only minor renovations were required to transform it into a clinic. After inspecting the place, Nelson was very satisfied.
- Once the clinic opened, he could work as a physician. His parents could assist with the sale of medicines. Healing people was secondary; the key was to be together as a family.
- Determined, Nelson didn't waste any time. After some haggling with the owner, he bought the place for 900 thousands and signed the contract on the spot. After that, it left him with 600 thousands.
- He knew setting up the clinic and buying medical equipment and various medicines would cost a lot, so he wouldn't have much left after acquiring all the necessities.
- After completing this big task without telling his family, Nelson returned home. He planned to keep this a secret until the clinic officially opened to give his family a pleasant surprise.
- The next day, Nelson got up early. After having breakfast with his family, Thea left for school as her vacation was over. Nelson headed for the Department of Commerce.
- After securing the pharmacy the previous day and preparing all necessary documents, he planned to quickly obtain the business license to open the clinic as soon as possible.
- He viewed the clinic as crucial because he wanted to ensure his family lived a good life without constantly fearing debt collectors.
- He was determined to prove his capabilities and show those who looked down on him—like Audrey and Sadie, who had abandoned him—how wrong they were.
- At the Department of Commerce, the officer handling Nelson's business license was a stern-faced middle-aged woman named Linette Craig.
- After Nelson submitted the property deed, ID copies, and other documents, Linette began processing the business license. All the while, she maintained a cold expression, as if Nelson owed her a fortune.
- As Nelson waited at the counter, he noticed a young couple at another counter finishing their paperwork. They were beaming with joy as they held their newly issued certificates and were ready to leave.
- Nelson was about to complete his business license when he met the eyes of the approaching young couple. His face immediately darkened.
- It was quite a coincidence—those two were the despicable couple, Warren and Sadie.
- "Nelson, what are you doing here? Did you know I was here and decided to come after me, still unable to forget me, and hoping to cause trouble?"
- When Sadie spotted Nelson, her expression quickly turned to one of enraged.
