Chapter 742 Death by Steel (Part I)

  • Nelson couldn’t just let Brandon Talbot and his crew bolt. If they got away now, taking them out later would be a nightmare. And if word spread from their mouths that he’d killed the governor’s son, Hao Feiyang, he’d be neck-deep in trouble. So he shelved dealing with Wu Gong for the moment and sprinted after the scum, planning to crush them first, then go back and handle Wu Gong. But Wu Gong, blind to reason, closed in and blocked Nelson’s path, slashing hard with his blade. As a martial arts grandmaster, Wu Gong’s combat strength was legit—maybe the toughest Nelson had faced since returning to Cloudhaven. That full-force strike, packed with heavy inner strength, wasn’t something even Nelson could shrug off. “Get lost!” Nelson brought his blade down in a straight chop. Steel met steel, sparks burst, and a brutal shockwave blasted outward from them. The force inside Nelson’s strike split the skin at Wu Gong’s tiger’s mouth, and the impact knocked him back three, four meters. “Pff!” A mouthful of blood sprayed from Wu Gong’s lips. Nelson had gone all in with that swing, and it rattled Wu Gong’s organs, leaving him with a serious internal injury. Clutching his chest, Wu Gong couldn’t help the bleak look on his face. After years apart, this Drakon had grown even more terrifying. He had zero chance of winning. Looked like he was dying here today, no doubt about it. “Never thought the illustrious Drakon of the Cruosia military—the youngest combat general in history—would retire in silence and hole up in Cloudhaven.” “Drakon, when you wiped out our Shadow Order, did you have any idea how long we hunted for you? Just wait. Even if I die here today, someone will avenge me.” Hatred burned in Wu Gong’s eyes as he glared at Nelson, like he wanted to tear him apart piece by piece. He was trying to stall, buying time so Ying Feng and the others could escape. Nelson saw right through it. Thanks to the delay, Brandon Talbot, Chandler Blanton, and the rest of those losers had already slipped out of the workshop. He kept racing for the exit—maybe he could still run them down and bag them all in one go. But Wu Gong wasn’t about to let him through. Without hesitation, he yanked out the handgun he carried and snapped off several shots at Nelson. Nelson had no choice—he brought his blade up and deflected. Wu Gong was a martial arts grandmaster, not some small-time thug who went down easy. Even Nelson had to treat his attacks seriously. And because of that wasted time, Brandon Talbot, Chandler Blanton, and the others had probably gotten far. Still, Nelson wasn’t worried about Brandon Talbot or Chandler Blanton slipping away. Every exit at the Donglin Fresh Factory was guarded by Heids’s people. He trusted Heids not to let him down—not a single rat would slip the net. For now, he had to put Wu Gong down fast, then hunt the others. “I’m curious—why is your Shadow Order knee-deep in this deal?” “And your organization was destroyed by me back then. Yet the leftovers still won’t give up? You sneaked onto Cruosia’s turf thinking you could rise again?” “Tell me—what’s the Shadow Order’s situation now? In this large-scale black ice sale today, what role are you playing, and what’s your endgame?” Nelson stared at Wu Gong, cold as ice. Back when black ice showed up at Mount Shepard, he’d already guessed it linked to the Shadow Order. Only they had the tech to make black ice.
