• Conny Sue broke the silence first, leaning back with a theatrical sigh of relief. He swept his eyes over Logan Pierce from head to toe, lips curling with contempt.
• “So,” he drawled, “this is the friend you couldn’t stop glancing at, Kiara? A jobless man?” His grin widened as though he’d stumbled upon a golden opportunity. “Tell you what—I’ll be generous. My company always needs security guards. With his build, he fits the role perfectly. Six thousand a month.” Conny chuckled, adding smugly, “I’d only offer that because he’s your friend.”
• A ripple of laughter passed across the Sue family’s side of the table. Job Sue nodded, pleased with his son’s “generosity,” while Mrs. Sue smirked, as though Logan should be grateful for the offer.
