- The car had been parked downstairs for a while. Layson Norman stuck his left hand out the window, holding a cigarette between his fingers. The cool breeze of the summer night whipped through the air, brushing against both of them like a cold, silent reminder of the distance growing between them.
- “We should take some time to cool down. I haven’t figured out what I want from this relationship yet,” Adela said softly, her gaze fixed ahead. She wasn’t avoiding the issue, but she knew they needed a break. Talking things through with Layson was the only way she could think of to handle the situation. They had both acted impulsively lately, and now they needed time to think about what to do next.
