• “So, Evonne, sweetie, how have you been?” Her Mom asked softly, reaching over to touch her knee.
• “It’s been good, Mom.” She had nothing else to add. It was either she asked about rehab or the current state of her family’s business, and none of those topics was pleasant, so she opted to halt back her savaging questions into an awkward silence.
