Chapter 11 A Man And His Pride
- “Come in!” The voice from within was crisp and cold.
- When Myra stepped into the room, she found Marcus sitting in a chair, his legs crossed in a relaxed manner. His face was even more aloof than before, and a certain coldness was added to his demeanor.
- What's wrong? Does he not like the gift I gave him? Myra sized this unpredictable man up from the corner of her eye. She thought of the young boy at home, guessing that he'd probably grow up to be just like him. However, she had to admit that there was something incredibly attractive about it.
- “Mr. Gerhard,” greeted Myra. “Did you call me over because you've remembered the events that took place five years ago?”
- “No.” The voice was so cold that it could freeze a tongue.
- Myra didn't give up, her lips brimming with a radiant smile. “Can we have a proper chat now?” she asked. “I'll help you remember.”
- Marcus' brows furrowed. “All right, then!”
- With a smile, Myra graced a step forward. “I almost thought you never wanted to see me again in this lifetime, Mr. Gerhard.”
- Marcus gave a light chuckle. Indeed, he had entertained such a thought before.
- Five years ago, she married him. On their car ride together, she was passionately forward with him. However, after that, she didn't utter a single word and vanished from his life as if she had evaporated into thin air.
- He wondered if she had ever considered his pride as a man.
- However, he realized he had been mistaken after opening the box she had given him.
- “Mr. Gerhard, there's something I'd like to ask you. You wouldn't mind, would you?” Myra asked.
- “You've done everything I minded. What's one more? Go ahead and ask.” He lazily lifted his eyelids, his gaze quickly shifting from her to something else.
- Myra's fingers tightened. She took a deep breath and asked, “Mr. Gerhard, five years ago, I sent you a divorce agreement. Did you agree to the divorce?”
- Marcus' sexy Adam's apple bobbed as he seemed to want to speak but hesitated.
- He hadn't expected her to ask him that question right off the bat. It stirred a storm within his heart. His hand almost knocked the coffee cup on the coffee table onto the floor.
- The last time he lost his composure like that was when Nathaniel abruptly placed the divorce agreement she had sent in front of him during a meeting in the conference room.
- Marcus rose to his feet, casting a lofty gaze down at Myra. “What outcome are you hoping for, Ms. Lindner?” he asked.
- With a self-deprecating laugh, Myra said, “I have no right to interfere with your decisions. All I can say is that the events of the past were absurd, and I'm sorry. However, as someone involved, I just hope to know the answer.”
- “From what I'm hearing, Ms. Lindner, are you in a rush to find your next target, fearing I, Marcus, might hold you back?” Marcus deliberately slowed his speech, his tone low and forceful, like the rhythmic beating of a drum that made her heart race.
- Myra, clutching the hem of her dress, feigned composure as she continued to question, “Did you sign it, Mr. Gerhard?”
- She thought the man before her was not born into a prominent family, nor was he particularly wealthy or influential. However, she assumed that he must have had no shortage of women by his side over the past five years. If he was already married, she wouldn't interfere.
- She noticed that Marcus' lips were always tightly pressed together. From her understanding of Dennis, this man's demeanor was strikingly similar.
- Myra was not satisfied and continued to ask, “So, Mr. Gerhard, have you met any girl who has caught your eye in these past five years?”
- “Ms. Lindner, do my personal affairs concern you?” Marcus glanced at her sideways. His gaze was cool and detached, devoid of warmth, as it fell on her radiant and pretty face.
- Myra chuckled lightly. “Yes. Would you be willing to share it with me, Mr. Gerhard?”
- “Do you fancy me?” Marcus asked, his well-defined fingers gently lifting her chin.
