Chapter 6 Your Services Are Required

  • Liam seemed surprised to see Chelsea as well. He stared at her intently with an indecipherable expression, like he was trying to see straight into her soul. What is she doing here?
  • Chelsea and Wendy worked in the same company where the former was the main receptionist for the external affairs department under Wendy's direction. She typically greeted him when he visited Wendy at their company, and their interactions were no more than idle chitchats.
  • In other words, they were not well-acquainted with one another.
  • W-What a coincidence to see her here, especially after... A sharp glint flashed through his gaze as he walked beside her, but his tone was indifferent when he asked, “Are you dining here as well?”
  • “Yes!” Nodding, Chelsea asked, “Are you here with Ms. Adams?”
  • Chelsea would need to greet Wendy if she was here; her manager was particular about such niceties. Once, her colleague, Yasmin Taylor, had forgotten to greet Wendy when she bumped into her on the street. It had cost Yasmin her bonus and earned her a public reprimand regarding her character in the company. Wendy had even used the words “not up to KG Group's standards” when criticizing Yasmin. Chelsea had enough problems to deal with without inciting Wendy's wrath, so she had to act smart.
  • However, Liam seemed to ignore her question as he posed one of his own. “Are you here with your colleagues?”
  • “No!”
  • “Your ex-classmates?”
  • “No.”
  • “Alone?”
  • “Erm, no, I'm here with my boyfriend.”
  • “Boyfriend?” That weird expression appeared in his eyes once more.
  • Chelsea swallowed her pride and nodded. “His parents and my dad are here too.”
  • “You're at the stage of discussing a marriage?” The unfathomable expression in his gaze vanished, but he sounded unusually frosty.
  • Chelsea sensed that she had said something wrong, though she did not know what it was. When she lifted her gaze, he had already turned around and left. When he was seven feet away, he suddenly stopped. Whirling around, he tossed out cryptically, “You women are all promiscuous creatures!”
  • His comment befuddled Chelsea. Promiscuous? I'm the farthest thing from promiscuity! It's not like I want to get married. What other choice do I have? And he didn't tell me if Wendy was here. Should I say hello? Urgh, I wish Dr. Morris was less confusing. My job could be at stake.
  • She had barely taken a few steps in Liam's direction when she spied Ben approaching her. “Chel, why are you standing there? Aren't you coming back to the room? Was it too stuffy for you? I can switch off the air conditioning and open the windows.”
  • “That's fine. I bumped into a colleague and had a chat.” Unfortunately, Liam had already turned the corner and disappeared. She did not know where he was going or if Wendy came with him. Oh well. At least I tried.
  • With that, she followed Ben back to their room. The discussion seemed to have ended when she arrived. Sally smiled at her fondly and said, “Chel, I've discussed everything with your father. We'll get a new house for you and Ben to live in after your wedding. We've been renting out two of the houses we own, and you can start living off the rental income once you're married.”
  • Dan added, “You work in the city center, which is a bit far from where Benny works. Luckily, he drives. For your new house, we'll consider properties near your company so that you'll have an easier time once a baby comes along.”
  • Ben seemed displeased and cut in, “Dad, she can rest at home once she's pregnant. I can support them, you know. I don't want my pregnant wife to work herself to exhaustion.”
  • Ben's parents laughed at his indignation. “Alright, alright. It's good to see you step up to the plate for a change. Once Chel has a baby, she can rest at home. We'll hire a housekeeper to take care of her as well.”
  • Ben was all smiles, though Chelsea's expression froze. Suddenly, her phone rang with a call from an unknown number. A thought crossed her mind before she could hang up the call. She walked to the window and answered the phone, “Chelsea Jones speaking. May I know who's calling?”
  • “This is Femme Fatale. Femme 009, your service attendant would like to remind you to be in room 009 at seven sharp. Your client has requested your services.”
