Chapter 6
- Rose couldn't sleep. She kept calling him till he got home. She ran downstairs when she heard his car drive into the garage. Damian looked drunk, as he staggered to the living room. Her stomach churned from the odor of alcohol as he reached to kiss her.
- But she had never said No to him and shouldn't now. “Captain, you need a refreshing bath and food, you seem to be tired from today's work.” She cajoled him and her mouth curved into a smile. He got hold of himself and followed her to her room where he took his shower and felt a bit relieved.
- He had stopped at the bar where their clique would always meet for a glass turn. It's not yet the weekend so no one was expecting each other, and ever since he married Roseline, he stopped hanging out with them.
- They’d found out he married their friend's fiance after his disappearance but assumed it to be a coincidence as they didn't see him (Damian) to be a mischievous fellow. surprisingly He saw one of their crew, Liam. Who was on his 3rd glass already, He sat with him after they shook hands and called out to the waiter.
- He only came for a drink and some quiet time before he leaves for home but maybe heaven knew he needed someone to talk to. And there is Liam. “ Hey man, how are you doing?” He asked, not interested in his response. It took him a while to notice his friend's mood.
- Liam looked lost in thought with his forehead furrowed. “Have you seen or heard from Rey?” he asked impromptu. Damian kept mute as he was taken aback to what conspired between him and Rey.
- “I’ve called his lines but not reachable and today I stopped at his apartment to check if he might be back but a new family has moved in already. He added. “ What could have happened to him? It's been 2 years now.
- Damian felt a surge of dread and got uncomfortable but wouldn't want Liam to suspect a thing so he suppressed the feeling and gulped down his drink. Then poured another glass.
- Inasmuch as he's an addict to marijuana, he never smoked out. It's either brandy or rum, he upholds his public reputation with so much dedication that he doesn't want any hint of scandal.
- After two glasses, he finally answered “I've not seen him and to be honest Liam, I wouldn't want to, because how do I face him? He hinted. Liam, who had been staring at the waitress, turned to him, “ what do you think of that lady there? He inquired.
- “She is okay, I mean if you find her attractive. He said while he took a sip on his drink. “Not bad for a wife huh? Liam interjected. “ Well, life is all about choices, " Damian deflected. He knew where Liam was hitting but didn't want to give in to his gag. Moreover that was the least of his worries.
- He thought of sharing his company's depreciation but waved it off on a sudden recall that Liam is a software programmer so he probably won't have any solution ideas as he can't relate to his condition. They drank in silence, but for the song playing in the background of the bar.
- He half finished the liquor and set for home. He knew he was getting tipsy and for the sake of his most revered reputation, he pulled all strings and walked sanely to his carefully packed Cadillac CT5 Blackwing car and in a swerve, he made for Acres main way.
- He drove carefully all through and let loose when he made it into the mansion. They had a late dinner as Rose was uncertain on what should be cooked.
- They settled for pasta with coleslaw and fried chicken. Damian loves the combo, it gladdens her heart because it's quite hard to impress his food binge due to his unpredictable appetite.
- “Princess, he purred while she snuggled up in his embrace. She loves it whenever he speaks because he rarely does.
- “My dad planned on replacing me here with whoever he’d thought would make his company similar to that of Lucy's but Lucy is dead, and I heard she was a powerful woman not just an influential one. He paused then took his gaze from the ceiling to her face “I might go on a trip.
- A business one, it's an investor's bait, hopefully I might get new investors to buy shares in our company. I don't want us in Burlington, moreover the company there has bigger problems.
- “Why don't he send the miracle worker to Burlington?” He inquired from Rose who was just happy being there and mindful of her breathing so it doesn't obstruct the sudden ventilation. Contended with the look of admiration on her face he went on
- “ We should take a vacation, what do you think?” He simpered. “ Whatever you say, captain, she nibbled on her bottom lip, forcing her eyes open. He kissed her, then fumbled her breast. Although he's tough, he loves her.
- But won't show as he considered it a weakness. “I will retire to my room now, have a nice night rest princess” he made to leave but she adjusted and clutched on him tighter. He felt bestowed and laid back.
- His phone rang, who could be calling this late? He pondered. “ Hello? Susan? He quietly slipped out of the room. Rose winced at the thought of Susan but continued her sleep because it couldn't possibly be her own sister.
- Moreover there is nothing she was to do about it. She never questions Damian. Now in his master room, “ hi Damian, had my dad called you yet? The voice could be heard.
- “No, why? His face went blank. “He said he will call you, I thought you both must have conversed already. She answered. But then have you thought about us?” She added. Damian, who was already out of patience, kept mute.
