Chapter 5

  • “FOR god's sake Damian! I'm not a puppet you could order around. But I'm sorry. I’ve lost count on how many times I've apologized but you kept bringing this up everytime. Can't you let go of this? It's past now. She sniveled hoping he wouldn't ask further questions.
  • Damian nodded in concursion, “yes you’re right, it's past now. I should stop talking about it although you never needed space but traveled to see this young man who you thought was better than me Sussy.” But then here we are. He added. She bowed in shame.
  • “I will talk to my dad, he will buy his shares back including the others. But you have to promise me something” she said. “Don’t call the shots sussy. I know what to do," he replied with a masculine gaze.
  • She wished he asked her about the promise. So she would open up and tell him about Mr Klaus and how he planned to buy his company. Maybe she should tell him the truth, that she's not his biological daughter but a bait to achieve his selfish goals.
  • But on a second thought she waved the idea, the truth won't save her, not now. Damian wouldn't believe such a cocky story.
  • Her phone rang, she went out to answer, leaving Damian confused. He’d never experienced such with her. What could she be hiding? He thought. Susan held the phone to her ear and walked till she felt she was out of his sight before she started speaking.
  • She had just greeted and a hoarse voice came from the other end, “where are you?, I hope you are not trading my business for pleasure!? You better not!. “ I'm sorry dad, I will be on my way now," she pleaded rather than arguing.
  • the voice came again, “I've told you not to call me that silly name on the phone, I'm not your father! And get your ass back here.” And with that, the line went off. She wrapped her emotions up and heeled back to Damian's office.
  • Without hesitation, she picked up her channel vintage heart shaped bag and leaned over to kiss him. “My dad doesn't like me staying out for long, I better be home.” See you soon she winked at him. He replied with a smile, but not a satisfactory one.
  • He walked her to the door and made for the conference room while she headed out of the building to the escort car waiting outside.
  • “I told you not to spend more than an hour there, " Mr Klaus ' voice was heard from his room. She had gone to report to him. He stood facing the glass window to view the cityscape, while she sat quietly on one of the armchairs, probably not breathing.
  • He lit a cigar, “what's your plan?” Susan shivered at the question. Had he been through her mind? “ Umm .. I really do not have any, you gave me everything I could ever boast of, I would prefer to live by your rules Bigshot.” She added.
  • She had learnt how to answer his unending questions and threats ever since she started working with the guys in the basement. He smirked, her response pleased him. “Any good news from that little boy?” He inquired.
  • She went on to feed him on the proposal Damian made to her, but was careful as not to get herself in trouble. “ He thinks he's smart, " he laughed. Get me my phone from the side stool, it's time I talk to him myself.” She hurriedly gave him the phone then exited the room at the wave of his hand.
  • Mr Klaus had picked her from the street when she was 17. She was sent out by her guardians on the news of her mother's death, because they had no other way to get her family to keep up with the monthly allowance.
  • They couldn't afford to cater for another person's child, as there were so many mouths to feed. She had no place to call home or an idea on how to go back to her family. She roamed the streets of Plattsburgh, and was oriented to theft.
  • One morning while taking a walk close to his plantation, he saw a group of teenagers reaching and picking on his fruits and vegetables. He deliberately raised an alarm to frighten them, they all took to their heels except the girl with brown disheveled hair and round eyes.
  • He was perplexed by her bravery and self-assurance, after a while of contempt, he sized her up with his daring eyes yet she stood unshaken. She had seen worse in the streets to be frightened by a man old enough to be her dad.
  • He took her home and as he thought she would be useful to him in future. He handed her to the senior maid as he didn't want to start manhandling her yet. She took care of her and taught her the rules of the house.
  • This was his second time using her as a tool. He favouritized her since she played the first deal so well and it was a successful one. He had sent her out to accompany one of his friend to a business conference so she could get distilled information on which company to invade next. He love playing games.
  • “Sir it's 4pm already, will you be working till night?” Queried Damian secretary who stopped at the entrance of his office in fear of the Implications of intruding her boss' privacy.
  • His dad had called to inform him that a new manager would take over his place while he moves to the other branch in Burlington to prevent the company from crashing as it's their headquarters. His phone rang again, it was Rose.
  • He chewed on his face, sadness clouded his features. He turned slowly to the secretary who immediately left the door. He picked the phone, "Hello princess, I'm fine, I would be home a little late." She had called to ask what he would eat for dinner.
