Chapter 2 Happy Birthday to Me

  • At seven o'clock the next day, Molly's biological clock woke her up on time.
  • The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Robt straightening his shirt in front of the mirror.
  • His routine had always been reversed. This was the first time he had woken up so early in the morning.
  • Hearing footsteps, he turned around, asking, "Is my outfit cool today?"
  • He was a natural clothes rack. Usually, any black shirt would look good on him. Today, he had specially dressed up and was even more handsome. A lazy look from him could charm a group of young ladies.
  • She did not know why he suddenly took her outfit so seriously. In the past, she would have been so charmed that her heart would beat wildly, but now, she only nodded calmly. "Yes, very handsome."
  • Robt did not notice her abnormality and smiled. "I have a party today. Be good and stay at home. I'll bring you dessert when I come back."
  • With that, he turned around and left.
  • Watching his back disappear, Molly wanted to pour a glass of water, and she saw his phone on the table.
  • When she picked it up, she accidentally touched the power button.
  • The screen lit up, revealing a new message from the person with the mark Grace. "Robt. It's been eight years since we last met. I'm looking forward to today's gathering. What about you?"
  • Molly stopped in her tracks when she saw the message.
  • It turned out that his first love had returned to the country today.
  • No wonder he woke up so early and even dressed up meticulously. There was even joy in his eyes.
  • The next second, the door was pushed open.
  • Robt, who had turned back halfway, suddenly came back and took the phone. Before he left, he glanced at the content on it and stopped in his tracks. He could not help but glance at Molly, who was eating.
  • "Did you check my phone?" he asked.
  • Molly looked up slightly with a calm gaze. "No, why?"
  • Only then did he smile, as if he was relieved. After saying it was nothing, he turned to leave.
  • This was the first time Molly felt she could not understand him.
  • His heart was filled with his first love. All the girlfriends he found were Grace's substitutes. Logically speaking, he should not care about me at all. Then why did he care if I had discovered the truth? Was he afraid of losing me? she wondered.
  • Molly did not want to flatter herself. Moreover, she understood that losing was a foregone conclusion.
  • After breakfast, she sat in front of the computer and opened the drawing software.
  • She was a comic artist. When she got home, she would be busy with her marriage and probably wouldn't be able to work for a long time.
  • Since she was still free, she planned to rush out the rest of the manuscripts.
  • After a busy morning, she packed up the results of half a day's work and sent them to the editor.
  • After lunch, she cleaned up a lot of things while the weather was still good—a couple of style cups, keychains, scarves, jackets...
  • These were all things that she had bought over the past few years. They were piled up with large boxes.
  • As soon as she saw these, she recalled the helpless look in Robt's eyes every time she got the item and insisted that he put it on in front of her.
  • "They're all things that little girls like. Do you really want me to take them out and get laughed at by my buddies?"
  • Thinking of this, Molly dragged the box downstairs and threw it into the trash can along with the box.
  • Now, no one would laugh at him anymore.
  • Finishing, Molly was about to go back, but when she turned around, she bumped into a cold embrace.
  • Robt, who had returned somewhen, put one hand on her shoulder and fiddled with her sweaty bangs with the other.
  • "What did you lose? Why are you sweating so much?" he asked.
  • "Useless trash." Molly made an excuse without changing her expression.
  • Robt did not suspect anything and pulled her upstairs.
  • The moment the elevator door opened, the sanitation truck arrived.
  • Molly only retracted her gaze when she saw the box of items being carried away.
  • Trash. How could there be so much trash? Actually, he only needed to take a look to discover some clues, but he did not ask anything. It was just because he didn't care, she said inwardly.
  • A trace of self-mockery flashed across Molly's eyes. She was slightly stunned when she saw his smile from the corner of her eye.
  • Robt had a pair of sexy eyes that could capture one's soul. When he smiled, one could not take their eyes off him.
  • Perhaps because he knew this, most of the time, he had a smile.
  • Everyone thought that he had a good temper, but only Molly knew that his smile was just superficial.
  • But today, when he smiled, his eyes were filled with joy.
  • Seeing Grace, he must be really happy.
  • As soon as he entered the house, Robt realized that the house was much emptier.
  • He looked around, a surprised expression on his face. "There's a thief in the house? Why do I feel like a lot of things have been lost? Where are our cups? The pillow is gone too?"
  • Molly was about to answer when Robt's phone rang.
  • He lowered his head to look at the message and quickly threw this matter to the back of his mind.
  • He walked towards the study and instructed before closing the door, "Molly, I have something on. Go to sleep first. Don't wait for me."
  • Molly didn't ask anything and went back to the bedroom alone.
  • The clock on the wall showed it was past twelve. Her phone, which she'd left under her pillow, vibrated wildly.
  • "Molly, happy birthday to you!"
  • "Molly Baby Happy 23th Birthday! Remember to eat cake!"
  • She scrolled down and saw that it was all birthday blessings.
  • His father, mother, brother, friends, and classmates who were thousands of miles away all sent their blessings.
  • Only her boyfriend, who was so close to her, seemed to have forgotten about this matter.
